To our many Chinese customers, readers and my friends, Xie-Xie Ni for your loyalty to ActSensuous.

And to our Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese customers, and all our Asian friends who celebrate the Chinese New Year, ActSensuous wishes you much happiness, good health, prosperity and love in 2013, and always.

And now, in alphabetical order by how they’re most known (some by first name, others by last name):

Ann Curry:  You are amazing.  In addition to being a great journalist, you are classy, elegant and beautiful.  Thank you for always having the professionalism and sense of femininity to always wear sheer pantyhose.

Bai Ling:  You are an incredible actress, but you have become too Hollywierd and don’t choose the best roles.  You are unusually beautiful, but never moreso than when you wear a nice dress, pretty high heels and sheer pantyhose.  Thank you for the few times you do.  More than anyone else, you don’t let anyone or any movement determine what you wear.  I love it when you dress elegantly, especially when you wear sheer pantyhose.  But please, less sheer black, and more nude or suntan.

Gong Li was never more beautiful than in her role in the movie, "Miami Vice," wear she wore elegant suits and sheer nude pantyhose.
Gong Li was never more beautiful than in her role in the movie, “Miami Vice,” where throughout most of the film, she wore elegant suits and sheer nude pantyhose.

Gong Li:  You are devastatingly beautiful. You have the face of an angel from heaven.  And you have great legs and the most gorgeous feet in the whole world.  You are very strong-minded and strong-willed.  Please don’t follow a fashion trend. You always dress elegantly.  Just please wear sheer nude pantyhose more often. The few times you do, you rule the universe.

Jeon Ji-hyeon:  Loved you in “Blood, the Last Vampire” and “My Sassy Girl” and “Snowflower and the Secret Fan.”   You are incredibly beautiful.  You are one of the few young models/actresses out there who frequently wears beautiful outfits, including sheer pantyhose.  Thank you, and please continue to live up to the reputation Asian women have for carrying themselves with poise, class, grace and ultra femininity.

Joan Chen:  Wear have you been?  You are an awesome actress, and you are stunningly beautiful.  I’ve never seen you in a movie (other than a period piece) in which you didn’t wear sheer nude pantyhose when wearing a dress.  Yet, I can find only about six pictures of you in pantyhose. Someone as feminine and glamorous as you should live in a dress, high heels and sheer pantyhose.  Please, Joan.

Chinese actress, singer and model Karen Mok is a devoted pantyhose wearer.
Chinese actress, singer and model Karen Mok is a devoted pantyhose wearer.

Karen Mok:  You are the coolest of them all.  You are gorgeous, but you’re also just plain cute.  And you are known for your killer legs.  And you are appreciated by those in the know for being one of the few who always can be depended on to wear sheer pantyhose for all the right occasions and venues.

As adorable as you are, you have so much class.  You’re also very intelligent.  I think you speak five languages, you are a singer, dancer, model, actress, and now a wife.  Congratulations.  And really, I cannot thank you enough for your devotion to wearing sheer pantyhose.  You are amazing.  Please don’t ever change.

Kelly Hu, what in the world?  I’ve seen you in sheer pantyhose I think once.  You are gorgeous.  What are you thinking?  Please give the world the gift of seeing you in a dress, high heels and sheer nude pantyhose.  Oh my goodness, you’d be a total knockout.

Lucy Liu, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t adore you, but please lose those ugly think black tights and go back to wearing nude or suntan sheer pantyhose.  You really look incredible in them.  In a poll on this blog, “Which Asian actress do you most want to see in pantyhose?”, you are far and away the Number One choice.  When I see rare pics of you in sheer nude pantyhose, I shake my head in wonder at how anyone who looks that beautiful in them would ever choose not to wear them as often as you do.

Chinese actress Maggie Cheung always could be counted on to wear sheer pantyhose in her many movies and ads.
Chinese actress Maggie Cheung always could be counted on to wear sheer pantyhose in her many movies and ads.

Maggie Cheung:  Where, oh, where have you been, Maggie?  Back in the day, no one had more incredibly beautiful legs than you.  And you always wore sheer pantyhose.  In the Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh movie, “SuperCop” you played a tour guide and when you stepped off the bus in that short skirt, high heels and sheer nude pantyhose, I thought you were a total goddess.  Even today, in the rare pictures I see of you, you’re usually wearing pantyhose.  So, thank you, Maggie.  I’d just like to see you more often.

Maggie Q:  How adorable you are.  You are super talented.  You are becoming a great actress, yet, you maintain a sweet and genuine quality. Good for you.  I thought I was never going to see you in sheer pantyhose, but all of a sudden, during this season of “Nikita,” you are wearing them much more often, and looking great.  Thank you for that.

Michelle Yeoh:  You are still my favorite.  I think Zhang Ziyi is the most gorgeous woman in the world, but to me, you are the most beautiful woman in the world.  The difference?  To me, beautiful means so much more than just physical beauty.  You are so professional, so classy, so caring, so devoted to good causes.  You are a kind and good person.  But, Michelle, you have never been more lovely in your whole life than when you wear sheer nude pantyhose.  Lately, you’ve been doing the “bear”-legs thing during public appearances.

Malyasian actress and humanitarian Michelle Yeoh is considered by moviemakers to be the most professional in the business.
Malyasian actress and humanitarian Michelle Yeoh is considered by moviemakers to be the most professional in the business.

I once read a comment you made in a magazine interview about Asian women having surgery to change their single-eyelid, and you admonished them, saying something to the effect of “Don’t change your appearance to meet Western standards of beauty.”  I was so happy you said that.  I think the single-eyelid is one of the things that makes Asian women so beautiful.  But, Michelle, you have been following the fashion trend started by Western women of going “bear”-legged.  You are way too professional and have way too much class and elegance to allow yourself to dress the way these Hollywierd celebrities do.

Please, Michelle, do what you know is right — dress those lovely legs of yours in sheer pantyhose, the way you did many times during premiere or publicity events for “The Lady.”  You must have felt the occasion called for a more formal look, and you made the right decision in wearing pantyhose.  And you looked incredible.  Please dress this way more often. You are the most visible Asian actress in the world.  Asian women are known for dressing more elegantly and femininely than Western women. You are the perfect role model for all Asian women.  You could set such a good example for all the other Asian celebrities.  Please do that, Michellle.

The few times Korean actress Sandra Oh wears an elegant outfit with sheer pantyhose, she is among the most beautiful Asian stars.
The few times Korean actress Sandra Oh wears an elegant outfit with sheer pantyhose, she is among the most beautiful Asian stars.

Sandra Oh:  The same goes for you.  You can do the slob routine as well as the typical Westerner.  But you just as often wear some fantastic dresses and awesome shoes.

And here’s something many people probably don’t realize — you have gorgeous feet.  But it is so rare (if ever these days) to see you in sheer nude or suntan pantyhose.

You really should go back and look at the pictures of you in that TV series you starred in, ‘Arliss,” about the sports agent, your movies “Last Night,” Double Happiness” and “Bean.”

How can someone who looks as incredible as you do in sheer pantyhose opt to go bare-legged, or almost worse, wear those thick black ugly tights.  Yuk.  You have great legs, Sandra.  They’ve never looked better than in sheer pantyhose.

Shu Qi:  You made a movie titled “Gorgeous,” and you are.  And you’re the cutest Asian actress ever.  More than most others, you are a frequent wearer of sheer pantyhose and you look incredible when you do.

For a good portion of the movie, "The Transporter," Chinese actress/model Shu Qi wore a lovely outfit with sheer nude pantyhose.

You were never more lovely and adorable than in “The Transporter.”  Here’s what petite women don’t seem to understand: Nothing looks better on you than a short skirt and high heels.  And, in “The Transporter,” that’s what you wore, with very sheer nude pantyhose.  Your legs never looked prettier.  Thank you, Shu Qi.  You are awesome.

Tia Carrere:  What happened to you?  You have disappeared.  I don’t know what you’re up to, and in the few pics I’ve seen of you, you’re doing the “bear”-legged thing.  I don’t know why because in your day, every movie I saw you in, you were wearing a dress, high heels and sheer nude or suntan pantyhose.  And, oh my gosh, did you have incredible legs.  You had to know that those pantyhose made your legs.  Yet, today, you’ve turned your back on them.  I don’t know why.  But thank you for how incredible you looked in pantyhose, particularly in “Wayne’s World,” High School High,” and “True Lies.”

Korean actress/singer Uhm Jung-hwa was deadly but delicious in sheer pantyhose in "Princess Aurora."
Korean actress/singer Uhm Jung-hwa was deadly but delicious in sheer pantyhose in “Princess Aurora.”

Uhm Jung-hwa:  You broke my heart in “Princess Aurora.”  What a beautiful, sad and powerful movie.  And what an amazing acting job, Jung-hwa.  I became a fan for life.  I know you also are an awesome model and singer/stage performer in Korea.

I know you always wear sexy outfits, including sparkly tights or sheer pantyhose during your performances. But it’s the look you portray in your movies that make me a fan. I’ve tried to buy all your movies on DVD, but only a handful are available to the U.S.  I’ve got four so far, but for me, “Princess Aurora” will always be the one that defines you.  You looked stunningly beautiful in that role, and I love that you wore sheer nude pantyhose throughout the movie, including during the fight scene with that lawyer.  Wow. Thank you for your commitment to femininity.  Still, I wish you were a more frequent pantyhose wearer when making public appearances.  I just hope you realize that, as beautiful as you look in everything you wear, you look twice as amazing in pantyhose.

Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, speaking during a media event last year in Toronto, routinely dresses professionally and beautifully, including wearing sheer pantyhose.

Zhang Ziyi:  Fittingly, your name allows me to save the best for last. I think you are the most gorgeous woman who has ever walked the planet. From head to toe, you are perfect.  In your movies, you are exciting, thrilling, powerful, beautiful, cute and funny.  You are amazing.  Of course, most of the movies you’ve made are kung fu period pieces, so no pantyhose.  But among all the other fabulous qualities you possess, I respect, admire and greatly appreciate you for being extremely professional, classy, glamourous and the very definition of feminine.  No one is more feminine than you.

And thank you, ZZ, for more often than not wearing sheer pantyhose when you make public appearances.  I’ll say this though:  If anyone could get away with NOT wearing pantyhose, it’s you.  You look incredible even bare-legged (no “bear” description for you.)  Still, when you do wear pantyhose, you are breathtakingly beautiful, and extremely sexy.  Also, while I said Gong Li has the most gorgeous feet of anyone, your’s are right there, too.  So please realize that nothing makes pretty feet look even prettier than sheer nylons. Thank you, Ziyi, for being such a perfect example for women everywhere.  You are the best ever and my hero.

Of course, there are many other Asian celebrities I could have mentioned, but this blog post would have gotten too long if I thanked each one individually.

Likewise, I know that there are a million Asian everyday women out there who go to work, go shopping, go to school, go to the grocery store, or just hang out — almost always wearing pantyhose.  I’ve heard that many Japanese housewives in particular wear pantyhose.  Now that is the ultimate commitment to beauty, grace and femininity.

My thanks to Asian women all over the world because it is common knowledge that you are more devoted pantyhose wearers than women of all other nationalities.

To all of you, Happy Chinese New Year 2013.

And, finally, to Li Na: I love you so much.  You are my all-time favorite WTA player.  Since I have the Tennis Channel on DirecTV, I can watch every match you play during the Grand Slam events.

It broke my heart that you didn’t win the Australian Open last month.  I rooted and cheered during every shot you made, and I will be there for you during the upcoming French Open, hoping you can repeat as the 2011 champion there, Wimbledom and the U.S. Open.

I hope you win them all, but whether you do or not, you are nothing but a winner in life.

Li Na, you are the most powerful, yet, graceful player in the WTA. You are the most fierce competitor, yet, the most gracious person.  You have so much class.  And you have the best smile ever.  Ni hen mei li, Li Na.

Oh, and you have the most beautiful legs of any player in the WTA.  Sadly, I’ve got only one picture of you wearing pantyhose, and not surprisingly, you look incredible in them.  I hope to see you wearing pantyhose more often, but whether you do or not, I will always love you.

Now, please enjoy these pictures of some of my favorite Asian celebrities:

But, as she is frequently the recipient of awards, and during other public appearances, the gorgeous and talented actress most-often shows up (quite beautifully) in sheer pantyhose.

2011 a Great Year for Pantyhose

Robin Maryland, president, ActSensuous

If the “bear” legs movement won the decade of the new millennium, pantyhose certainly got their legs back in 2011.

(NOTE: I’m putting quotes around “bear” just once and then running with it as-is. Seasoned readers get my play on words, which have their origin in one of my earlier posts: “Why Bears Don’t Wear Pantyhose.”)

No, I’m not proclaiming that everything’s back to normal; far from it. But I think greater strides were made in 2011 than at any time from 2000 on.

I do think 2011 gave us much for which to be thankful, and optimism for years to come. While things looked pretty bleak from 2000 through 2010, I am thrilled by the number of new and seasoned celebrities we saw wearing pantyhose in 2011.

In movies, on TV shows, in TV commercials, on singers/performers taking the stage, on game shows, across fashion runways, in magazines, and practically everywhere we looked in the community, we saw more pantyhose in 2011 than I think we saw in the previous 10 years. And if you want to see beautiful women in pantyhose, just do a google search, and you’ll find that pantyhose are indeed alive and well.

Pantyhose took us by storm in the late-1960s, absolutely ruled in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and enjoyed a good run through most of the ‘90s before “Sex and the City” reared its ugly head in 1998.

In the role that made her famous, actress Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke on the TV show, “The Dukes of Hazzard,” made sheer pantyhose famous.

And, in the ’70s, no one did more for pantyhose than actress Catherine Bach in her role as Daisy Duke on the TV show, “The Dukes of Hazzard.”  Bach took sheer pantyhose to icon status, wearing them with her signature short-shorts and heels on the show.

It’s difficult to imagine how and why so many women in the world would try so hard to distance themselves from the look made famous by Bach.

Looking at this picture of Catherine Bach, I can’t see how anyone could believe that pantyhose are old-fashioned and irrelevant in society today.  A look of sheer beauty and the truest sense of femininity is never irrelevant, and it never goes out of style.

I honestly didn’t believe the bear legs culture would catch on, and I never dreamed it would flourish, almost to the demise of pantyhose.

It has taken a great deal longer than I imagined, but women have begun coming to their senses again. That was clear in 2010, and never more evident than during 2011.

Still, through the darkest times of the 2000 decade, I was so pleased and encouraged by the vast number of men throughout the world voicing their displeasure over the bear legs movement. There are thousands of pantyhose forums, websites and blogs about the love and devotion that (at least) men feel for pantyhose.

I still can’t believe that so many women don’t seem to care that seemingly 99 percent of the male population loves them in pantyhose. The fact that women almost universally reject the beauty, femininity, class, elegance, and sensual characteristics inherent in pantyhose remains a complete mystery to me.

I should acknowledge that, along the way, there have been many women who never bought into the bear legs culture.  Occasionally, I read on an online forum about a woman or two who, like me, just don’t get the hostility other women have toward pantyhose.  It is so heartwarming and encouraging to read the words of some women who say they love pantyhose, and the attention and appreciation they get from wearing pantyhose for men who love it so much.  We can’t know about these everyday women on a large scale, so unfortunately, I cannot give them the praise they deserve. Still, we know they’re out there, so if you’re reading, thank you for remaining professional at the office, classy about town and always feminine in all situations.

Similarly, I’ve been delighted and encouraged by all the support from readers of The ActSensuous Blog this year. I greatly appreciate all your comments, compliments and well wishes.  So, in addition to my usual ranting and raving about celebs and the state of the pantyhose industry, in this year-in-review post, I want to share with you some things you might find interesting – the stuff you guys contribute.

Your comments

You guys write some well-conceived and thought-provoking comments.  You have a real understanding of what’s going on in the world of pantyhose.  You know the celebs who are devoted wearers, and you know the ones who aren’t.   In many of your comments, you attach links to pictures, videos and online articles about pantyhose.

I love it when you write about a colleague at work who routinely wears, or doesn’t.  I love when you write about your most memorable pantyhose experiences and the affects they had on you.

And, of course, I appreciate all the nice things you write about my different posts.  I couldn’t do this if I didn’t think you cared and appreciated it.  So thank you for all your support.

In case you ever wondered, most of those who comment on my blog are not ActSensuous customers.   Sometimes, it’s a bit embarrassing when a customer writes a comment and closes with how much he loves our products and our customer service.  I’m not asking for that, but it’s always nice to read the positive feedback, and I am sure it’s good for business.  So, to those customers/readers, I’ll say this:  That’s not what the blog is about, you don’t have to endorse us in your comments, but I know it comes from the heart, and I do appreciate very much your good intentions.

One reader complimented me a long time ago for keeping the blog separate from the business.  I never expected anyone to notice or care about that, but I always appreciated that this guy got it and pointed it out.  In fact, of the 48 (before this one) posts I’ve written since May 2009, only one was blatantly about ActSensuous – the one on April 25, 2011, called “Return of Pantyhose TV ads a Good Sign.”  In it, I shared my vision (OK, fantasy) of having a celebrity become the official spokesmodel for ActSensuous.  I wrote about the celebs I’d choose if I could.  That post was pretty popular and got some good comments, but I really thought it would get more response from you, telling me which celeb you thought would be perfect to represent ActSensuous.

And that leads me to this:

The polls

I thought polls would be a good way to be heard for those who don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment on a blog post.  What could be more anonymous than that?  Even I don’t know who clicks an answer on a poll on my blog. Yet, the response numbers seem low to me.

To those who have voted on my various polls, I thank you.  Your answers to the poll questions – your voice – give me an insight as to what you think about the state of pantyhose in society today.  To demonstrate that point, I’ll share with you the results of some of those polls, starting with:

  • “Which celebrity would be perfect to represent ActSensuous?”
Following her breakout role in the movie, “The Devil Wears Prada,” Anne Hathaway has maintained a classy and feminine look, including wearing pantyhose for all the right occasions and venues.

Of the 50 votes this poll generated, Anne Hathaway garnered 14 (30%).  To put that in perspective, the next highest vote-getter was Milla Jovovich with 9 (20%).

They beat out the likes of Sandra Bullock, Bai Ling, Nicole Kidman, and four write-in names: Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li, Christie Brinkley and Morena Baccarin.

I was not surprised you chose Anne Hathaway.  I love that, even though she is so young, she gets it. While probably every celeb has her days when she just isn’t going to wear for any occasion, Anne is pretty consistent.  She has the maturity, the class and sense of femininity to wear for all the right reasons and at the right venues.  I believe Anne has a bright future as a Hollywood star, and I’d be proud to have her represent ActSensuous.

Of course I love Milla Jovovich.  She is beautiful, extremely professional, ultra classy and just plain cool.  She is a great actress, and if the truth were known, I’d choose her if I could.

Of the others, I love Bai Ling, Nicole Kidman, Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li, and I would be thrilled if any of them would even consider being the face (legs) of a pantyhose campaign, but that seems rather remote to me.

Christie Brinkley

Now, Christie Brinkley as the official spokesmodel for ActSensuous ….. that seems pretty realistic and very appealing to me.  I’ve always liked Christie.  She’s always been extremely professional, very classy and ultra feminine.

Those are some incredible legs, and she certainly understands the appeal of sheer pantyhose.

I would have thought the same thing about Morena Baccarin, but even though she can always be counted on to wear sheer pantyhose with her outfits in TV series (“The Visitors” and “Homeland”), I’ve never seen her wear during visits on late night talk shows.  I find that so frustrating because it kills my image of her.  I want to believe she is what I see in her TV roles, but have to face the reality that when she’s on her own time, she chooses not to wear.   That amazes me because she looks 100 times better in pantyhose.  Then again, isn’t that true of all of them?

  • Which Celebrity do you most want to see in pantyhose?”
Sandra Bullock performs a scene in her new movie, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” in Brooklyn.

This poll generated 91 votes, of which Sandra Bullock took 34 (37%).

She overwhelmed the likes of Jessica Alba with 22 votes (24%), Kate Beckinsale, Nicole Kidman, Bai Ling, and seven write-in answers, including Fran Drescher, Michelle Yeoh, Lucy Liu, Bette Middler, and Jenna Fisher.

Good for Sandra Bullock to win that poll.

It goes to show the popularity of the veteran action, dramatic and comedic actress among the ranks of pantyhose lovers.

Why not?  Sandra always has had the professionalism and class to wear pantyhose for the right occasions.

I would have liked to see Michelle Yeoh, Bai Ling and Lucy Liu score higher, but they do in the next poll.

  • Which Asian actress do you most want to see wearing pantyhose?”
The lovely and multi-talented Asian-American actress Lucy Liu sometimes wears pantyhose during public appearances, and when she does, she looks fabulous.

Out of 34 total votes (only 34 – what’s wrong with you people?), Lucy Liu won with 13 votes (38%).

Very impressive, as she beat out whom I think is the world’s most gorgeous woman, Zhang Ziyi, who came in second with 8 votes (24%).

This poll was won because of the popularity/familiarity of Lucy Liu.  I mean who doesn’t love her?

Ironically, from what I’ve observed, Ziyi is a much more prolific wearer of pantyhose than Lucy will ever be.

In fact, as much as I adore Lucy Liu, she breaks my heart by doing the bear legs thing much more often than wearing pantyhose.

Further, it seems the rare occasion on which we see Lucy Liu in pantyhose, she’s wearing the thick, black ones.  Yet, to behold her in sheer nude pantyhose is a breathtakingly beautiful sight. At least the black pantyhose she’s wearing in this photo are fairly sheer.

Zhang Ziyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” Rush Hour 2”) is only just becoming known to Western audiences, and since she lives in China, she’s not quite the household name Lucy Liu is.

Classy Chinese movie star Zhang Ziyi almost always wears pantyhose during public appearances.

But Ziyi is the Asian actress I most want to see in pantyhose.  To me, she is total perfection.

Other vote-getters in this poll were Tia Carrere, Michelle Yeoh, Devon Aoki, Bai Ling, Gong Li, Maggie Q, Karen Mok and Brenda Song.

Besides Zhang Ziyi, I next most want to see Michelle Yeoh in pantyhose.  I still love her more than any other Asian actress, and she is simply awesome in pantyhose, although, sadly, that’s a rare sight these days.

It’s so frustrating that Maggie Q doesn’t wear pantyhose on her hit show, “Nikita,” (or any other thing I’ve ever seen her in.)  There was a time (early 1990s) when Tia Carrere (“Wayne’s World,” “High School High,” “True Lies”) was the most beautiful thing that pantyhose ever happened to, but those days appear to be long gone.  I would guess most of you have no clue as to who Karen Mok is (“Black Mask” and “So Close”), but someday I’ll do a whole post about her.

Young model/actress Devon Aoki (“Debs” is my favorite movie of hers) is a frequent pantyhose wearer and looks amazing in them.   I haven’t seen enough of Brenda Song, but it’s neat that someone voted for her.

I love Gong Li, Maggie Cheung and Karen Mok, and they all look fabulous in pantyhose, but to me, there is just something truly remarkable about seeing Bai Ling in pantyhose. Maybe that’s because it’s so unexpected.

Bai Ling dressed beautifully, complete with brown pantyhose, during an appearance at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Nov. 4, 2011, in Hollywood, Calif.

Bai Ling is an enigma.

She is extremely intelligent and has great talent.  She is incredibly beautiful.  But she fits in perfectly within the Hollyweird culture. I don’t really get her, but I can’t help but love her.

She is known for wearing the skimpiest and strangest outfits, and looking awesome in them.

But when she wears pantyhose, it is so heartwarming to me.  She kills me in a good way.

  • Pantyhose – To Wear or Not to Wear (ladies only please)

This was not the poll that saw the widest margin of victory, but the winning answer got 19 of the 24 votes (79%). The winner, I’m happy to say, is this answer:

“I choose to because I believe in and wholeheartedly support the concepts of beauty, glamour, class and sexiness inherent in pantyhose.” Coming in second was the answer:  “I am not on one side or the other and would wear or not wear pantyhose based on the appropriateness of the situation/environment.” That answer got 3 votes (13%).

I wrote (ladies only please) at the end of the poll question because I knew what answer men would give, and I really wanted to see what women would say. I always wondered if the votes were indeed by women only. I don’t know, but there were 2 votes (8%) for the answer: “I choose not to on my own personal volition because I think pantyhose are uncomfortable, impractical and/or unnecessary.”  We know women cast that vote.

But here’s the real news: Not a single vote came in for the answers: “I choose not to because I believe in and completely support the cause for the bare legs movement … period;” or for: “I choose not to because the excuse now exists thanks to the bare legs movement.”

Hey, I’ll take our minor victories anywhere I can get them.

  • Today’s “Bear Legs culture:

This is the poll, attached to the post “Why Bears don’t wear Pantyhose,” that launched my whole “bear” legs terminology.  The answer that won this poll was: “Can’t die a horrible death soon enough.”  Still, it got only 60 votes out of 110 (55%).  Taking second place with 26 votes (24%) was the answer:  “Is to punish men (for being men).”  Sorry about that, guys.

OK, are you wondering what poll got the most activity and won by the very widest margin?  This won’t come as a surprise to most of you. It was attached to my first (and arguably best) post of 2011 (Jan. 9), titled “Why Not Pantyhose and Open-Toe High Heels?”  This post still gets comments and generates discussions, remaining one of the most popular on this blog.

  • Pantyhose with open-toe high heels?

This poll generated 160 votes – by far, the most activity of all the other polls.  The winner was the answer: “Absolutely! Yes, please!”  You gave that answer 151 votes (94%).  I’m so proud.  Getting only 7 votes (4%) was the answer: “No way! No How! Never!”  And just 2 voters (1%) selected the answer: “Who cares?”

Professional singer/dancer and TV personality Paula Abdul always wears sheer pantyhose during public events, and looks perfect in open-toe heels.

More than any of my other posts, “Why Not Pantyhose with Open-Toe High Heels?” struck a huge chord with you.  This was the post in which I first bashed all the so-called “fashion experts” for making up hard and fast rules that dictate what they say is acceptable or not for you to wear.  That anyone listens to these people is unfathomable to me.

I had no idea when I wrote it that this post would generate so many comments and poll votes.  I am so glad you overwhelmingly support the wearing of pantyhose with dress sandals.

Even more, I love it when celebs (by far the greatest influencers of fashion) completely disregard the advice of the “experts” and always wear pantyhose with open-toe heels.

Looking at the picture of Paula Abdul, I can’t imagine how there could be even a few people out there who still think this look is wrong.

Wrap-up

As much as I love my self-appointed mission of being the voice of hope and reason for the return of pantyhose to favor in all aspects of society, I couldn’t write this blog without your participation.  I try to make my posts compelling and entertaining, hoping to generate comments and discussion among you.  And I throw in polls to give you another avenue to express your views about pantyhose.

Sometimes, when more time than usual goes by between posts, I’m struggling to stay motivated or to come up with something I think you’ll care about.  The point is I do this for you.  I hope you will continue to contribute, and I hope more of you will get involved.

Finally, I could say this (and probably will) until I turn blue, but we owe our thanks to so many wonderful celebrities all over the world who turned out in droves wearing pantyhose this year. There’s not enough space to acknowledge all of them, but let me recognize a few we couldn’t have done without this year.

Ann Curry: She is beautiful, classy and professional. We owe her so much gratitude for keeping the bar high in TV journalism.

Carly Foulkes, the beloved T-Mobile Girl:  Now we know it wasn’t a fluke. I don’t know how many commercials she’s made now, but she’s always in one of those famous pink dresses, with awesome pumps and sheer nude pantyhose.  She’s a young hottie who potentially can influence an entire generation to dress more femininely.

Julianna Margulies is one the most professional Hollywood actress, always dressing professionally, especially wearing elegant outfits with sheer pantyhose everywhere she goes.

Julianna Margulies:  She has always been professional and classy, and now, as the star of “The Good Wife,” she can do no wrong.

She’s a great actor on arguably the best show on TV, and so, in her we have a highly visible celeb who wouldn’t be caught dead not wearing pantyhose.

Hopefully, Julianna will influence those career women who don’t think there’s anything wrong with showing up for work with bear legs.

What I like most about Julianna is that not only does she always wear pantyhose on the job, but also out in public and on late night talk shows.  She’s truly a devoted wearer.

Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and other young professional entertainers are doing the right thing.

Perry and Gaga, and Paula Abdul are practically pantyhose ambassadors because they wear not only on stage, but also out in the public eye.

These women are priceless contributors to our cause.

Kate Middleton: Obviously, much has been made of her commitment to wearing pantyhose, and rightfully so.  She clearly is all about class and elegance and doing the right thing.  In all fairness, she may be the one woman who singlehandedly changes the course of pantyhose’s fate in global fashion circles.

Yes, 2011 was a great year for pantyhose. We’ve made up so much ground, and I am looking forward to more of the same in 2012 and beyond.

Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Seriously, why not Pantyhose and open-toe high heels?

Robin Maryland, president, ActSensuous

December 30, 2010 — Since I started my blog in May 2009, I’ve written 30 posts.  I am really proud of a few of them: “Why Bears don’t wear Pantyhose,” “A good time to be Asian,” “Even Aliens wear Pantyhose.”

But the post that has been, by a wide margin, the most read, and seemingly, the most appreciated, is the one I wrote in January of this year, “Why not Pantyhose with open-toe high heels?”  So, as 2010 comes to a close, and I want to finish as strongly as I began this year, I feel compelled to give you what you obviously want.

Now, please don’t think that I couldn’t come up with something fresh and so decided to reheat this one.  OK, that’s actually pretty much the case, but during this entire year, I’ve been struck with what the stats show – that, when I have, for example, 200 visits in a day, 120 people read “Why not Pantyhose with open-toe high heels?”

Similarly, more readers have participated in the poll attached to that post than any of the others.  And the results?  As of this writing, of the 109 votes cast, 106 (97 percent) were for “Absolutely! Yes, please!” (to wearing pantyhose with open-toe high heels); only three were for “No way! No how! Never!” (3 percent); and zero for “Who cares?”

Because this post, and the ongoing debate over the subject, struck such a nerve with you, I decided to dig a bit further into the matter.  In January, my post began this way:

Lately, I’ve read several posts on various blogs in which girls are asking for advice about what to wear to a special event.  Often – and I love this – they are open to wearing pantyhose but for the fact that they want to wear some sexy open-toe high heels and believe one is not supposed to wear pantyhose with such shoes.   Who made that rule?

Today, my question is:  Who made these people “fashion experts?”

This time, instead of stating my views, I went the scientific route and visited some websites of fashion magazines.  Like everything else on the Internet, you can find tons more information than you’re looking for, so if you want to see some of what I saw, you can write this in your Google search engine: top fashion experts on pantyhose and open-toe shoes

In the interest of keeping the length of this post reasonable, I’ve selected for your viewing pleasure just three excerpts of advice/opinions about the topic from “fashion experts.’’

Here’s the question posed to the experts:

Should you wear stockings with open-toe shoes?

(Stockings?  Who wears stockings today?  I’m already offended.  Why couldn’t they just write pantyhose?)

Below, you’ll see direct quotes from some of what these “experts”  wrote, a blurb about who they are and their qualifications (as well as mug shots where available), and my polite response to their idiotic statements.

  • “I view it as one of the worst fashion offenses a woman can commit…   “When I see a woman wearing stockings with open-toed shoes, my first thought is that she must have some kind of nasty toenail fungus or calves covered with varicose veins.  Wearing stockings when it is not appropriate to wear stockings always makes it look as though you have some dirty little secret to hide. So if you must wear stockings, wear them with sensible shoes.  And if you must wear open-toed shoes, make sure that your toes are showing.  After all, that is the whole point of open-toed shoes in the first place.”
Marlin Bressi

(Marlin Bressi:  An award-winning hairstylist and beauty expert whose work has appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers on several websites, such as Suite101.com, where he was Beauty Editor for two years.)

My polite response:    Hey, Marlin, it could be that the reason you used to be the beauty editor for two years is that someone finally realized that you actually have no sense of fashion.  You said: “If you must wear open-toed shoes, make sure that your toes are showing…”  Uh, two things for you, dude:  1.) Toes most certainly will be showing in open-toe shoes; 2.) Toes do show through pantyhose.  Nylon is sheer.  That means they’re see-through.  Go back to strumming your guitar and smoking dope, dope.   By the way, real nice outfit.

  • “Breathless with anticipation and wondering if you can wear pantyhose with bare toes?  Relax, take a breath. The answer is no. Pantyhose and bare toes are not complimentary.”
Anne Warchol

(Anne Warchol: A retired mother of three married children. People think I’m in my 30s, and I never tell them I’m 50.)

My polite response:    I got news for you, Anne.  It ain’t just that people think you’re in your 30s (maybe a couple of the neighborhood kids where you live).   They also think you’re a moron.   “…wondering if you can wear pantyhose with bare toes?”  Seriously?  You can’t even pose the question properly.  Of course one can wear pantyhose with bare toes.  What – you think pantyhose are usually worn over socks?  “Pantyhose and bare toes are not complimentary.”  Huh?  Anne, you’re not only not qualified to weigh in on the topic at hand, you’re not qualified to leave your house.  And get a hairdo, will ya?  How can you hope to be thought of as a fashion expert with that do?

  • “Tights and stockings should not be paired together.  No way.  No how…”

(Chelia Copeland:  Highly motivated, creative and versatile journalist with a graduate degree in journalism.  Over five years of writing/editing experience at a variety of newspapers, magazines, web sites, publishing companies and organizations.  No photo available.)

My polite response:   Chelia, you’re a journalist with a graduate degree in journalism?  You’ve been a professional writer and an editor?  Well, so have I, and when I see two mistakes in one paragraph, I stop reading.  First, the issue is whether one should wear stockings with open-toe shoes, yet, your opening statement is “Tights and stockings should not be paired together.”  Huh?  The question was pairing hosiery with open-toe shoes, not pairing tights and stockings.   Why would anyone do that?

Then, you write that you have “over” five years of writing/editing experience …”  Didn’t you learn in journalism school that the word “over” refers to a position in space, such as over the hill, or over the rainbow?  You should have written that you have “more than” five years of writing/editing experience …

Whenever professional writers get the little details wrong, they lose credibility in my book.  You lost me after your first paragraph, Chelia, and I stopped reading.  So, while I don’t know why you are arguing against wearing hose with open-toe shoes, I really just don’t care what you have to say.  You have no credibility with me because, if you’re this sloppy in your own profession, you’re not qualified to comment on what is or isn’t fashionable.  And what kind of name is Chelia, anyway?  Bimbo.

There, see how delicately I handled these so-called experts  and their idiotic statements?   Sorry, but I have little patience with stupid people – especially those who tout themselves as experts and then have the nerve to publish their views, despite the fact that they can’t construct a simple sentence.   I mean one knucklehead wrote that wearing pantyhose with open-toe shoes is ugly because the “seem” shows.  I guess he means the “seam.”

sbI wonder if any of these people have really seen a woman wearing pantyhose with open-toe shoes lately?   Could anyone tell Sandra Bullock (left) she can’t wear pantyhose with open-toe shoes?

And in the case of sheer nude pantyhose, in many cases, unless you get probably way too close and/or stare with great intensity, you can hardly tell if a lady is wearing pantyhose or not.  And what if a delicate little seam shows?   Heck, I think that’s sexy.

Seriously, who made these people “fashion experts?”

As long as barely-educated windbags have a forum to express themselves, unfortunately, some women will be influenced by their stupid opinions.  I should point out that, thankfully, there are several writers taking the exact opposite position, so perhaps it all balances out.

One positive about this raging debate is that there is one.  I mean as long as so many women are asking, and so many “experts” are answering, at least it’s a good sign for pantyhose lovers that so many people care.  Unfortunately, I believe the prevailing thought is this:

“The universal no-no is to never wear sheer nude hosiery with open toe shoes or strappy sandals — it just looks tacky.”

So states fashion expert Sharon Haver of www.focusonstyle.com

I disagree with her.   Fortunately, so do many women who most influence fashion – actresses from throughout the world.   Check out the celebrities below (starting from the second row down.  I don’t know why the first three pics are repeating in this gallery).   Who’s going to tell these women they are committing a fashion no-no?

Happy New Year, everyone!

A Good Time to be Asian II

Robin Maryland, president, ActSensuous

Last year, in one of my first-ever blog posts, I wrote that I was going crazy for all things Asian – especially because Asian women appear to be much more prolific wearers of pantyhose than their Western counterparts.

I say it’s A Good Time to be Asian because it seems as if the whole world is discovering their selling power.  Today, Asian women are highly visible and they’re everywhere:

They’re on television shows and in major motion pictures.  All over the world, they are the face of every huge cosmetics company.  They have at least a bit part in almost every TV commercial. They’re in every magazine, they’re on billboards, on staff at every news organization.

Why?  Because they are practically perfect.  They are beautiful, glamorous, sexy.  They are the epitome of what’s female.  They are classy, graceful, elegant.  They are delicately beautiful, yet physically, mentally and emotionally powerful.  They are awesome.

My best friend is Vietnamese.  She is extremely intelligent (she has two bachelors degrees and a pilot’s license); she has a wonderful sense of humor, she is tons of fun to be around, and she is beautiful (although she doesn’t know it).  She’s also totally devoted to her family.  She gives and gives and never asks for anything for herself.

I have read about and seen documentaries about Asian culture, and I admire their work ethic, positive attitudes and commitment to values.

Mostly, I love their devotion to femininity.  I’ve read that it is considered rude in Korea for women not to wear pantyhose in public.  In Japan, women apparently embrace pantyhose not only at the office and during formal events, but (and I love this), also in everyday settings.   Those of you who’ve read my blog know how I love watching Ninja Warrior because some of the female contestants wear pantyhose even though they know they are likely to fall into the muddy waters beneath the toughest obstacle course known to man.  And even the female spectators sitting in the bleachers at the outdoors event can be seen in dresses or skirts and pantyhose.

But of all the Asian cultures, my heart still is owned by the Chinese.  I’ve read more and seen more documentaries about China than any other Asian country.  For me, it began a long time ago with my becoming a Bruce Lee fan, but that’s a whole other story.

I set my DVR to record anything starring Asian actresses.  There are at least 30 Asian actresses (mostly Chinese) I regularly follow.  Of course, I love Asian-American actresses like Lucy Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Bai Ling, Sandra Oh and Joan Chen, but I also love many who are popular mostly in their own countries.

Below, I’ve put together a photo gallery for you of a few of the more famous Asian actresses wearing  pantyhose.  In the captions, which you can read by expanding the pictures, I’ve written a note about the movies you can see them in.

I’m sure I’ve left out a few of your favorites Asian actresses because of space issues.  I would love to know who your favorite Asian actresses are.

(Have pictures of Asian actresses wearing pantyhose?  If so, please email them to me at Robin@ActSensuous.com and I’ll use them in a future blog/gallery.)

What do you think?  Is it A Good Time to be Asian?

A good time to be Asian

Robin Maryland, president, ActSensuous

That’s what I tell my best friend/employee.  She’s Vietnamese-American, and an absolute doll.

You see, Asian women today are showing up everywhere in the world on TV, TV commericals, movies, magazines.  Why? First, Asians are probably the world’s most beautiful women.  Second, it seems they are much more prolific wearers of pantyhose than Westerners and all other nationalities.

Maybe it’s just part of the Asian culture – they seem to do everything elegantly and gracefully – and they appear to be much more professional-minded in the workplace, always wearing business suits, high heels and pantyhose.  I read on the Internet that it’s considered rude in Korean culture for girls to show bare legs in public.  I think I love Korea.

So, it’s a good time to be Asian because it seems like the whole world is discovering Asia.  Not since the superhuman Bruce Lee revolutionized martial arts and introduced it to movie audiences throughout the world and brought global attention and pride to China, has there been such an explosion of Asian talent in the mainstream media of today.

I admit, I am hooked.  I can name 20 major Asian actresses off the top of my head.  I’m sure I could think of many more if I really tried, but the ones I’m counting are well known (including Lucy Liu (love her), Sandra Oh, Joan Chen, Michelle Yeoh (OMG), Maggie Cheung, Gong Li (gorgeous is not enough of a compliment), Ziyi Zhang (the most perfect woman in the world), Bai Ling (wow), Shu Qi (adorable) and Maggie Q).  Wow, all of them except Maggie Q (mostly Vietnamese) are Chinese.  OK, so there’s Devin Aoki (Japanese) who starred in “D.E.B.S.,” and Jet Li’s “War.” And, one of my faves, Uhm Jung-hwa  (Korean) who starred in “Princess Aurora” (an exciting, heartwrenching mystery/drama, which also is beautifully written and acted).

I’m trying to get our little Asian employee to model for us because she looks absolutely awesome in ActSensuous pantyhose, but she is so modest.

Quick Question: Would you like to see a gallery of pics of our lovely little Vietnamese girl modeling ActSensuous pantyhose?  If so, please leave a comment below.

We have a few Asian customers, but I’d love to have many, many more.  Please tell your Asian friends about ActSensuous.  Also, I am pleading with our Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Thai customers out there: Send us photos of you wearing our beautiful, sexy and decidedly feminine pantyhose.  I’d like to start an all-Asian models category of the gallery on our website.  Please honor us with your beauty and grace.

What do you think, readers?  Are you Asian crazy yet?  Please click on the comment link below this post and tell us your thoughts.  It’s completely anonymous to participate. Only the name you provide will appear along with your comment.
