New year, new hope for more pantyhose

Did you know that January 4 is “National Triva Day?”

I just learned that while doing research to write this post.  Turns out there are about 20 other little celebrations associated with January, including “National write the wrong year on your check month,” “Bath Safety Month” (seriously?) and “Stalking awareness month.” (OK, there’s one for you.)

I found this a few days ago when I went Googling for validation of something I saw on a TV commercial.  It’s an ad by ShoeDazzle (link below), referencing the celebration of “National Bootie Month.”   https://www.ispot.tv/ad/ACvp   I thought, “What?  Is that really a thing?”

OK, apparently, mostly, it is, only it’s really called “National Bootie Day,” and it’s actually on September 10, according to JustFab.com and other references I’ve now seen.

http://blog.justfab.com/2015/09/justfab-celebrates-nationalbootieday/

So, ShoeDazzle jumped the gun a bit (just nine months) to promote its products, but the timing of that commercial was spot-on for me, as it got me wondering all about booties worn with pantyhose, and this ad prompted me to look into the whole idea and write about it here.

Those of you who’ve gotten to know me throughout the years probably realize I don’t like the wearing of boots with dresses or skirts, but what about booties?  Hmmmm, let me think … NO.

Why do I dislike boots or booties with a dress or skirt?  Because it hides too much leg and foot. My preference has always been any kind of high heels (but not so much the platform kind), or pumps or dress sandals.  And the less the shoe, and the more the foot, the better.

British-American actress, Sienna Miller, wears a plaid tweed jacket with shorts and peep-toe booties.

On the other hand (OK, the foot), open- or peep-toe booties worn with sheer pantyhose apparently is a thing these days.

And you know what?  I’m good with that.

diane-krugerI mean, you ain’t never gonna find me sporting the look, as actress Diane Kruger (right) does, but I officially state here that I am all for it on anyone else.  Why?  If women will wear pantyhose with open- or peep-toe booties, it’s another win for all of us.

Further, it’s just one more thing that ought to drive the “fashion experts” crazy.

fpWe all know how much the fashion police out there despise, not only pantyhose, but even more so, pantyhose worn with open-toe high heels, even while no one ever follows their stupid advise.

Nevertheless (and this is huge), it now appears we’ve all finally worn down some of those fashion freak naysayers.  Case in point, check out this Vogue.com story that ran a few months ago:

http://www.vogue.com/13488139/tights-open-toe-shoes-runway-trend-spring-2017-fashion-week/

Runway model wearing sheer pantyhose with open-toe shoes.

If, with the new year upon us, you’re looking for signs of hope and optimism about the return to mainstream status of sheer pantyhose, this Vogue.com story is a giant leap forward.

Too bad, though, that the only photo (I could find anyway) related to this new concession about sheer pantyhose being worn with open-toe shoes on the runway, is this one (left) with the model wearing some ridiculous-looking pantyhose.

Still, there’s no denying this is a huge step forward for pantyhose lovers.

I mean first, the fashion police told us pantyhose for any situation and venue were an absolute no-no.  Yes, they won quite a number of blind followers, yet, pantyhose didn’t die, did they?

And, you’ll remember, ActSensuous (which started in 2001, at the very height of the “bear” legs movement), was always here telling you not to worry; to keep the faith, as there remained a sizable pocket of resistance by classy ladies, female business execs, celebrities and thousands upon thousands of “real girls” who never gave up on pantyhose.

When the fashion watchdogs realized, but couldn’t admit, that pantyhose were still a force, they shined their negative spotlight a little lower, barking out that, of all the horrible things about pantyhose, the absolute worst was wearing them with dress sandals.

Ph toes They actually plastered this pic (left) all across the Internet, trying to show how bad that idea is, as if anybody believed anyone actually wore ugly hosiery like that with sandals.

To that, I present this image (below).

abbey-clancyThe wearer (right) is Abbey Clancy, a lingerie, catwalk model and television personality in England.

Anyone who would try to discourage this look is, well, most likely jealous, as Abbey’s feet are beautiful in those sheer pantyhose.  Often, I smiled when seeing absolutely everywhere that NOBODY was buying that rubbish the so-called fashion experts wanted women to believe:  That it was taboo to wear sheer pantyhose with open-toe shoes.

And, thankfully, from the most successful and highest profile women to the everyday real girls out and about across the whole wide world, everyone who wears pantyhose always has been wearing them with open-toe shoes.

During the past few years, the latest manifestation of that trend has been wearing pantyhose or tights with open- or peep-toe booties.  To me, that’s sorta like giving a big “Take that” to all those fashion know-it-alls.

Kylie 1

Still, I didn’t really care, and just forgot about the whole thing until I remembered seeing this picture (above) of young TV personality, Kylie Jenner, wearing open-toe booties (quite beautifully) with sheer black pantyhose during a Nickelodeon awards show a few years ago.

I thought she looked amazing, but I still figured this was a very unique thing, and as usual for me, I somehow missed the point and largely forgot about Kylie’s look back back then.  Until, that is, I saw the ShoeDazzle commercial earlier this month.

jessica-albaSo I launched an Internet search to see whether anyone else really was sporting this look?

To my surprise after three days of research, I was able to file only a handful of pics, such as this one of actress, Jessica Alba (right), to share with you.

Now, that doesn’t mean that’s all I found.  No-no-no.  I actually saved 93 pics that have something to do with the subject of this post.

And, lest ye think that what I do for you here is all just fun and games for me, let me share the dilemma I came to have.  When laying out the copy and then trying to illustrate it with the perfect artwork (meaning choosing just the right image to illustrate a specific point I make), it’s way too cumbersome to sift through the 93 choices in one folder.  So, being the super-organized type, I sorted all 93 images into different subfolders — nine to be exact.

I can hear what you’re thinking now: “That Robin, she’s a clever gal.”  Yeah, but nine subfolders to do with wearing pantyhose or tights with open- or peep-toe booties, you ask?  You bet.

You see, the problem I encountered was this whole booties thing ain’t all that black and white here.  To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, let’s go through all nine subfolders of images.  C’mon, it’ll be fun …

1. Open- or peep-toe booties with pantyhose

kylie-j-2 The very point of this post, right?  Well, the most significant photo I found was the one that started it all for me: Kylie Jenner’s look (right) during that Nickelodeon awards show.

In my opinion, she is the signature example of wearing sheer pantyhose with open-toe booties, although, I don’t get black pantyhose with white footwear.

Still, I have to give her credit for this look.  With those toes in those hose, she could pull off anything.

2. Open- or peep-toe booties without pantyhose

nina-dobrevI know what you’re thinking: Why would you show a picture of that, Robin?

Well, one cannot know what cold feels like, if one has lived one’s whole life in 90-degree weather. (Prophetic, huh?)

And since open- or peep-toe booties exist, naturally, they are (most often, I found) going to be worn with bear legs.

So here ya go.  See how they look?  Now, aren’t you glad you saw Kylie Jenner’s way of wearing them?

You’re welcome.

3. Booties with pantyhose

morena-baccarinYou get that?  Just plain old booties (not open- or peep-toe).  In my search, I found many more pics of regular booties, but at least, I found a bunch of pictures of women wearing them with pantyhose.  So you have to see one of them.

Probably, the most compelling pic I found of someone wearing just plain old booties (but with pantyhose) is this one of actress Morena Baccarin.  There are precious few photos of Baccarin wearing pantyhose, so to find one of her wearing pantyhose with booties seemed too significant not to show you.

Why do we care, though?   Well, it’s “National Bootie Month.”  OK, actually, it isn’t (as we covered in the beginning), but since that goof-up was what spawned this blog post, look at this picture and be thankful.  Good job.

4. Booties without pantyhose

OK, just kidding.  I’m not going to show you that.  I mean, I found a lot more of those pictures than anything else, and I did put a few of them in a folder with this name, but we’ve got more important things to cover here.  So, we’ll move on.  (You’re welcome.)

5. Just booties

Christian Louboutin-Guerilla Studded-open-toe booties.
Above, a Christian Louboutin Guerilla Studded open-toe bootie.

Seriously.  With pantyhose or without, I found so many things that might, or might not, be booties, I had to create and fill a subfolder with that name.

So, to be clear, the image you see here (right) is an authentic bootie.

6. Not actually booties

You see where I’m going with this?  Some footwear pics I found (below, left) kinda, sorta looked like booties and even had pantyhosed feet in them.   I have no idea what the heck these things are called, maybe just boots (low ones), but they aren’t in the spirit of the booties we’re talking about here.  Maybe they are just some kind of funky, chunky shoes.

just-bootsIn any case, since I collected and stored those pics (then, realized after all the experience I’d gained) that they actually aren’t booties, you have to see a pic of one of them.

Pretty nice pic, too.  At least, the girl is wearing these regular old boots with pantyhose.

7. Not sure

kylie-minogueThat’s right.  There are some pics of women in pantyhose wearing something that might, or might not, be a bootie.  The only thing I know for sure now is that I have no real idea what the heck a bootie is.  Hey, sue me, OK?

So here’s a picture (left) of Australian mega performer, Kylie Minogue.  See if you can tell whether those things on her feet are booties, or something else, smarty pants.  Hey, at least, she’s wearing pantyhose with them.

not-talking-about-this8. Not this

One thing I had no trouble with was being pretty clear that this image (right) is not what this blog post is about.  But I really I liked the picture.

So here it is.

9. Absolutely stupid, doesn’t count

dumbest-look-everSeriously, I made a subfolder with this title.

That’s because these pics I found, but didn’t want to find (or even see) are the dumbest thing I have ever seen in our beloved pantyhose industry.

And because I had to see it, you have to see it.

I would like to find the moron who came up with this idea, and karatefy him or her.

In fact, I’d also like to kick the frick out of the bigger moron who actually bought this idea.

Here’s how I imagine the first meeting about this product design went:

Pitchman:  Hey, I’ve got a great idea here.  How about we make pantyhose that go from the waist all the way down to the feet, but stop at the toes?

Boss:  Wait a minute, did you really just say what I think you said?  What the heck is wrong with you?

stupidPitchman:  Now, hear me out, hear me out.  We’ll call them toeless pantyhose, and that alone probably would get some  women out there to buy them.

Boss:  Why on Earth would anyone buy such a thing?

Pitchman:  Well, for years, all those fashion experts have been telling and making some truly dumbass women out there believe that they should never wear pantyhose with open-toe shoes.

So, with this new product, they can now wear pantyhose so that their legs look great, but … and here’s the best part … their toes will be bare, so they can wear their open-toe shoes the way the fashion experts tell them to.  Huh?  Huh?  Brilliant, right?

Boss:  OK, let me get this straight.  The women who …

Pitchman, interrupting the boss:  … dumbass women …

Boss:  Right, right.  The dumbass women who wear these things would have on real pantyhose that make their legs look, well, fabulous, all the way down the foot, but stop at the toes?

Pitchman: Yes, yes …

Boss:  OK, so to be clear, these …..

Pitchman, chiming in:  dumbass …

whatBoss:  Right, dumbass women, they go about their daily routines wearing, say, black pantyhose down through the shoe, and then their bare, white, pasty toes peek out to the world, and ….. I’m sorry, tell me again … why would any woman in her right mind do such an incredibly stupid thing?

Pitchman:  That’s just it.  They do incredibly stupid things.  We don’t even have to tell them it’s what the fashion experts agree with …  I mean, if we make this product, they’ll think it’s the thing, and they’ll buy ‘em and wear them.

Boss:  Yeah, OK, I’m sold.  Let’s do it.

hanesAre these people kidding?  I guess not, because even Hanes bought in to this concept (right), and their ad campaign actually reads:  “Hanes Silk Reflections Ultra Sheer pantyhose toeless design lets you wear sandals and open-toe shoes and show off your pedicure.”

OK, now I’ve definitely seen everything in this business.  I will have a difficult time trying to get these images out of my head now.

Readers, seriously now, is this the dumbest thing you’ve ever seen related to pantyhose?

In any case, it’s a new year.  And with it, comes renewed optimism that pantyhose will continue to make leaps and bounds toward returning to mainstream acceptance.

Already, we’ve seen some great signs, such as Vogue.com actually promoting the wearing of sheer pantyhose with open-toe shoes on fashion runways.  Don’t discount the significance of that.

And, with the growing fad of wearing sheer pantyhose or tights with open- or peep-toe booties making inroads, there’s definitely reason for increased confidence that we are taking the right steps forward toward bringing pantyhose all the way back.

It should be a fun ride.

Wishing you all “sheer” happiness, health and prosperity in 2017.

Oh, and by the way …..

Waitin’ all day for another disappointing SNF intro theme

Robin Maryland, president, ActSensuous
Robin Maryland, president, ActSensuous

It’s baaaaaaaaack.  Just a week from today, the NFL kicks off.  Finally, life has meaning again.

My mind is filled with questions:

Will Big Ben and the Steelers be the Stillers again?  (That’s how we say it “in the burgh.”) RB Le’Veon Bell returns in his sophomore season finally healthy, and RB LeGarrette Blount joins the backfield as a free agent.  Will the black and gold’s offense resemble the Jerome Bettis days?

Will the Dolphins finally challenge for the AFC East?  We’ll find out next Sunday, as the Fins host the Patriots.  It’s a 1 p.m. game, and I’m hoping it’ll be 98 degrees with 95 percent humidity.  QB Ryan Tannehill enters his third season with a brand new offense installed by new OC Bill Lazor, who was with the Philadelphia Eagles last year.  So there will be lots of speed, motion and quick decision-making by #17, but behind an offensive line that features five new starters, after center Mike Pouncey underwent offseason surgery.

Will the Rams be able to overcome the loss of QB Sam Bradford?

Will Peyton Manning and the Broncos match or top last season’s record-setting offensive production?

Will the Seahawks dominate again, or experience a letdown?

Wait a minute.  I’m off track here for the theme of this blog.  Let’s get to the burning question that’s really on my mind:

Will Carrie Underwood go classy, or once again, slobby for the opening theme song of Sunday Night Football?

Having “Faith” in Underwood, assures she’ll go slobby again, and that thought has been driving me crazy for weeks.

Singer Faith Hill wore some strange outfits while performing the SNF intro theme.
Singer Faith Hill wore some strange outfits while performing the SNF intro theme.

During her reign as performer of the “Waitin’ all day for Sunday Night” theme song for SNF, Faith Hill went the way of the bear, wearing dresses or short-shorts, always bare-legged.

I suppose it’s possible she was wearing pantyhose under these very weird boots, but even if she did, it doesn’t count since she’s not showing enough leg anyway.

In any case, one would be hard pressed to call any of the outfits she wore to perform the SNF intro theme professional or classy.

In replacing Hill last season, I so hoped Underwood would show a little class, but that didn’t happen.

Instead, she wore denim short-shorts, a sleeveless top and cowboy boots, complete with “bear” legs.

What will Underwood wear for the opening act of SNF this season?  Probably something else equally disappointing, including, of course, bear legs again.

I do hope I’m wrong, but whatever she wears, the chances that she will have on pantyhose are about as good as completing a Hail Mary pass for a touchdown.

As it turns out, in searching for Carrie Underwood on the Internet, I stumbled upon this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDNSxm–sew

So, if this is the final wardrobe selection, we have our answer:  Underwood once again will underwhelm, wearing a very short and strange-looking dress that appears tattered, comfortable-looking high-heel sandals, and, you guessed it, bear legs.  Pause frame at 0:12/2:50.

I’ve written it before (last year, actually), but it’s worth repeating: The NFL has gone to great lengths to improve its image during the past several years.  It’s a privilege to play in the league and to be associated with the NFL in all capacities.

The NFL is a multi-billion dollar business.  (In the preview video, Fred Gaudelli, Coordinating Producer, Sunday Night Football, says “Sunday Night Football is the Number 1 show on television …”)

And, in almost every case, everyone associated with the NFL who appears on TV dresses very professionally.  The guys in the booth, Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth, who call and comment on the game, wear business suits and ties.

Similarly, the female hosts on NFL Network wear pantyhose with their dresses and heels, alongside the male hosts and analysts who wear suits. (I’ve since been corrected about this.  Well, for a while there, Lindsay Rhodes used to wear quite beautifully, though I haven’t seen her in a long time, so I really don’t know now, and Amber Theoharis was wearing for a while, but apparently now, she’s gone the way of the Grizzly.  Too bad.  She used to look awesome.)

And remember, all NFL cheerleaders wear pantyhose with their uniforms, even in the hottest months in the hottest cities.

Singer/songwriter Carrie Underwood has been known to wear sheer pantyhose during performances.
Singer/songwriter Carrie Underwood has been known to wear sheer pantyhose during performances.

If all these people dress with professionalism and class, why can’t Carrie Underwood, an otherwise professional singer/songwriter, do the same when representing the NFL?

It’s not like she doesn’t know what pantyhose are.  She’s worn sheer pantyhose to perform on other stages.

No, sadly, this is a choice made by Underwood, the costume designer, the director, the producer, and/or anyone associated with bringing this act to the SNF stage.

And shame on all of them for wanting their star to prance around the stage of the most-watched show on Sunday night as if she were ushering in a barbeque for the big ho-down.

Way to go, folks.

NFL losing its mind

Seems to me that the NFL is getting goofy these days anyway.  I get trying to protect players by making it illegal for tacklers (and ball carriers) to initiate contact by leading with the head, using the helmet as a weapon.  I agree with penalties for grasping the facemask and for horse-collar tackles.

I can even see the point of emphasizing the enforcement of illegal hands to the face, but, c’mon, this is football. Things like that are going to happen occasionally, accidentally.

But this business of moving the starting point of the kickoff up to the 35 yard line to discourage a runback — ostensibly, the most exciting play in the game?  What genius came up with that one?

And I understand the NFL wants more scoring, but not allowing the DBs to touch a receiver after 5 yards?  And don’t get me started on PI.  Today, all a veteran quarterback has to do on 3rd and forever is throw deep, knowing there’s a better than average chance the defender will be called for pass interference, resulting in an automatic first down.

Then, there’s roughing the passer.  Since the days of Hall of Famer Dan Marino, and soon-to-be HOFers Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, the NFL has wanted to protect the quarterback.  I appreciate that.  But today, you can barely touch a QB without getting penalized.  You’ve seen it:

A defensive end or a rushing outside linebacker (or even a Safety on a corner blitz) gets to the QB, makes contact, but the signal caller magically wiggles out of a sure sack, scrambles to find a now-open receiver and completes a pass for a first down.  And I’m not just talking Big Ben here.  He does that routinely because he’s like 6-5, 265 pounds, and that’s just part of his game.  He’s practically patented that move.  I am talking about almost any QB today is able to escape being sacked, and I think it’s because defenders are concerned about getting penalized for roughing the passer.  I’m not saying it’s a conscious decision by defenders.  I just believe it’s in the back of their minds, causing them to hold up a bit.

C’mon, NFL, let these guys play football.

That’s right, I’m a petite little thing who wears nothing but dresses or skirts and heels and  sheer pantyhose every day … and I know football.  (A dream come true, aint I?)

Sorry for the rant, but these things have been bothering me for some time now, and what am I gonna do — write to the NFL?  Puh-leeeeease.

Back to reality

Longtime readers here know I do not like, and cannot tolerate missed opportunities for entertainers to do the right thing.

I wrote this last season, and I’ll write it again here:  There are so many more professional, credible, exciting performers who are much more glamorous than Carrie Underdog (not a typo).

If whoever is behind the production of the SNF opening theme song cared (obviously, he or she, or they don’t), a more professional and glamorous performer could do an exciting version of “Waitin’ all day for Sunday Night,” and look fabulous at the same time.

That guy I mentioned earlier, Fred Gaudelli, Coordinating Producer, Sunday Night Football, says of the SNF intro theme show for 2014: “It’s got a major star in Carrie Underwood.  That’s the right star to open up a show like Sunday Night Football.”

Seriously?  I soooo disagree.

Pop singer/songwriter Katy Perry can always be counted on to wear a fabulous outfit complete with sheer pantyhose during every performance she makes.
Pop singer/songwriter Katy Perry always can be counted on to wear a fabulous outfit complete with nude, suntan or black pantyhose during every performance she makes.

In April of last year before Underwood was announced as the new SNF intro theme performer, I had written a post recommending a few stars I hoped would be considered to replace Hill (Who should NBC hire next to perform intro to SNF?) and my first choice was Katy Perry.

When I found out it was Underwood, I was disappointed.  Why another country singer like Hill?  Why someone else who likely would dress like she’s performing in a saloon?

In that post last year, I included a poll, and most of those who participated picked Katy, as well.  (I like being right.)

Jennifer Lopez always puts on a high-energy show, and always wears sheer pantyhose with exotic outfits.
Jennifer Lopez always puts on a high-energy show, and most often wears sheer or sparkly pantyhose with exotic outfits.

Today, I still believe Katy Perry, Beyonce’, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez would be better choices to do the SNF opening, as each is more professional and much classier than Carrie Underwear (again, not a typo).

I know those ladies would wear a fabulous costume that included sheer pantyhose.  And this time, I’d add to that list Jessie J, and maybe Ke$ha and Shakira.

As far as I am concerned, consideration still should go to Selena Gomez and now Ariana Grande, but I do believe both are a bit too young and don’t have the credibility for such a venue yet.

Still, I am convinced both would at least have the good sense, good taste, professionalism and class to wear sheer pantyhose with their outfits.  Something Carrie Underwhelming doesn’t seem to have.

Really, if I were producing the SNF opening theme, I’d probably feature a different performer each week singing her own version of that song.

And if SNF really wanted Underwood to do the singing for the first episode, I’d go for that.  She could sing the song, but I’d get the Radio City Rockettes to do the actual performance.

The Radio City Rockettes are the epitome of class and glamour when it comes to performing at high-profile events. And what are the Rockettes most famous for? Their legs adorned in sheer nude pantyhose.
The Radio City Rockettes are the epitome of class and glamour when it comes to performing at high-profile events. And for what are the Rockettes most famous?  Their fabulous legs always adorned in sheer nude pantyhose, of course.

That’s how you open Sunday Night Football, people!

Out of sheer morbid curiosity, I will watch the SNF intro performance next Sunday, but as Johnny Dangerously would say — “Once!”

I just want to see the pageantry and imagine what could have been one time.  But after that, every Sunday night, I will have the telecast on until the intro theme comes on, at which time I will change the channel until I think it’s over, and then I’ll rejoin the program.  My little way of protesting this missed opportunity.

Will you join me in this?  Not sure it will make any difference, but it’ll make me feel better.

OK, your comments please.  And please take the new poll.  Tell us who you’d rather see perform the SNF intro theme.

Rare occurrence for pantyhose lovers about to take place

Update

OK, well, that was rather anti-climatic.  Not only were there very few scenes of Lucy Liu wearing sheer nude pantyhose during tonight’s Season 2 premiere episode of Elementary, but no real great camera views.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t change the fact that Lucy Liu actually did wear sheer nude pantyhose for (the first time ever on the show?), and at least we have the still shots to enjoy what we didn’t get to see enough of during the actual episode.

Original post — Tuesday Sept. 24, 2013:

I know that at least some of you are like me (so sorry for that) in that you make decisions about which movies or TV shows you watch based on the likelihood of the female lead character wearing pantyhose.

Lucy Liu on the set of
Actress Lucy Liu on the set of Elementary Aug. 21, 2012 in New York.

Being a huge Lucy Liu fan, I have tried to watch the CBS reimagined Sherlock Holmes TV drama series, Elementary, in which she plays Dr. Joan Watson — a sober companion-turned-apprentice-detective to Holmes.

While I love Lucy Liu and think she’s a fine actress, I haven’t been able to stick with Elementary for two reasons:

First, she has too much of a backseat role for my liking; Second, I don’t care for her wardrobe (usually, some fluffy skirt, with ankle booties and thick, dark tights; sometimes, slightly not as thick and lighter-colored tights, but always the tights).  Tights! Tights!  Always, the tights.

This also appears to be Lucy Liu’s preferred real-life look — or worse, not with the tights even, as she all-too-often does the “bear” legs thing.

That’s a shame because when she occasionally dresses elegantly, and when she extremely rarely wears sheer pantyhose, Lucy Liu looks absolutely spectacular.

Sheer miracle

Now, something earth-shattering is about to happen.  In this Thursday’s (Sept. 26) Season 2, Episode 1 premiere of Elementary at 10 p.m. on CBS, Dr. Watson is going to be wearing a fluffy dress, those goofy ankle booties and … wait for it … SHEER NUDE PANTYHOSE.

In the episode, “Step Nine:” Holmes and Watson travel to London to help a former mentor of Holmes’ investigate an unsolved mystery.

Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson appears in a scene of
Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson appears on the set of Elementary in London, wearing sheer nude pantyhose.

Now, since the show is on Thursday, I don’t know the details, but I was fortunate enough to find some pics from the scenes, which were shot last month.  It’s a bit confusing because Watson is wearing two similar-looking outfits, one in New York, where the show is set, and the other during  the London scenes.

LL Elem 3

LL Elem 4

During the scenes shot in NY, Watson is “bear”-legged, but while in London, she wears sheer nude pantyhose.   Hmmmmm.

Two things here:  First, most of the outfits Watson wears at least include tights, so why she appears out in the streets of NY in bear legs actually surprises me; Second, the fact that she wears pantyhose while in London is very interesting.

Is this a sign of respect directed toward Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, while on Kate’s turf?

After all, it was Kate Middleton who almost single-handedly brought back, not only pantyhose, but more specifically, sheer nude or suntan pantyhose, to mostly the whole world.  (Thanks again for that, Kate.)

And if this is a sign of respect, was it the decision of the costume designer of Elementary, or was it Lucy Liu’s decision or suggestion herself?

Either way, I’m happy, but I’d like to think that Lucy Liu wanted to wear sheer nude pantyhose.

Again, since we won’t see the show until Thursday, I don’t know how the bear legs outfit and the sheer nude pantyhose outfit are worn during the same episode.

It sounds as if the show begins with Holmes and Watson traveling to London, so I don’t know whether the NY scenes come up first, or if it is after the characters’ return home, or perhaps, the NY scenes are in the following week.

Either way, it appears that the photos from both NY and London were shot around the same time last month.  Well, we’ll see, but the thing that is particularly significant here is that this episode, or episodes will serve as a wonderful compare/contrast deal.

To actually have the opportunity of the whole Elementary-viewing public to see for themselves and compare/contrast Watson’s bear legs with pantyhose-adorned legs in one episode (or two), is fantastic.

LL Elem 5
Lucy Liu’s bare legs on the set of Elementary last month in New York. And what a tremendous difference there is.
When I wrote earlier that I want it to have been Lucy Liu’s decision that she wear pantyhose for the London scenes, it’s because I hope that she didn’t care much for the way her legs look in the NY scenes.  Do you realize the significance of that?

How many times have you read my words on this blog, expressing my dismay at how a celebrity could see herself on camera after going bear-legged and not say to herself afterward: “What was I thinking?”

Whether that happened in Lucy Liu’s case or not, Elementary has just gotten a great deal more interesting and appealing to me.

OK, I feel some of you slipping away.   What’s the big deal whether she wears pantyhose or not, you ask?

Listen, I love Lucy Liu.  I think she is an incredibly beautiful lady.   And I think she’s beautiful whether she’s wearing pantyhose or not.

LL baton 1But look at this picture (right) from Thursday night’s episode. Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson is heading to a confrontation with a suspected bad guy.

Check out those legs.

I adore Lucy Liu, and I think she’s got some world-class legs.

But, after seeing this picture of herself, do you really believe Lucy Liu would be happy with how she looked in this short a skirt … and bear legs?

It doesn’t mean she’s not still beautiful.  It doesn’t mean she isn’t a wonderful actress and a great person.

LL on setBut being honest, you have to admit her legs look a great deal more spectacular in this picture (left) from the same episode … only in sheer nude pantyhose.

So for those who wonder why it matters, this is why:  Do you think Lucy Liu would go without makeup during a TV episode or a movie?

I doubt it.  She’s a superstar.  She’s always going to present herself in the best possible light.

And, just as makeup can improve every actor’s face, sheer pantyhose can enhance the beauty of every girl’s legs.

I’m not saying Lucy Liu should never go bear-legged.  I am saying that when she wears sheer nude (or any skin tone shade) pantyhose, she goes from beautiful to incredibly amazing.  That’s all.

Make a difference

Now, here’s where you come in.  Here’s your homework assignment.  Whether you’re a Lucy Liu fan or not; whether you like Elementary or not, you should tune in Thursday at 10 p.m. on CBS and watch this episode.

Let’s make the ratings skyrocket at least for this episode.  Will that make a difference?  Would anyone associated with the show realize that people watched because Dr. Watson finally wears sheer nude pantyhose on Elementary?  Probably not, but it couldn’t hurt.

Maybe those of you who are Internet savvy will write in to the show, lauding Lucy Liu’s and/or the costume designer’s decision to dress Watson this way.

If nothing else, the sharp contrast between Lucy Liu’s bear legs and pantyhose-graced legs will be permanently preserved on film print for critical scrutiny.  If anyone really cares.  I do, and I know you do, too.

ActS pollIn one of my polls: “Which Asian actress do you most want to see wearing pantyhose?” you chose Lucy Liu by a significant margin.

As of this writing, of the 45 votes you cast, 17 were for Lucy Liu (38%).  The next highest vote-getters were Tia Carrere with 10 (22%), followed by Zhang Ziyi (my personal favorite) with 9 (20%).  And the field included some other very impressive candidates.

Actually, I’m shocked that Gong Li got no votes.  She looks amazing in pantyhose, but sadly, you won’t find many pics of her in them.  One exception is in her role in the “Miami Vice” movie.

In any event, at least for one episode of Elementary, we get to see Lucy Liu in sheer nude pantyhose, and suddenly, all seems right in the world.  I hope it leads to many more episodes in which she dresses this way.

In a comment earlier this week, one of our newest readers, Sheer Mike, made an interesting observation about a potentially negative effect of the “bear” legs movement that isn’t being talked about.

In part, this was Sheer Mike’s comment:

If we’re not careful and the “bear” legs trend continues another 8 to 10 years, I’m concerned we’ll lose a generation of women wearing pantyhose.  Yes, we need to continue finding ways to get more women under 40 to dress up and wear pantyhose … Maybe think about focusing on a younger demographic — girls age 10-16.

It’s a legitimate perspective (the prospect of losing a whole generation of potential pantyhose wearers) that probably has crossed many minds.  But not mine.  For some time, I’d been contemplating writing a post praising the many girls in their late teens and women in their 20s who already are devoted pantyhose wearers.

Occasionally, I visit some of the hundreds of websites on the Internet that are devoted to women in pantyhose, and am always happily amazed at the uncountable number of pictures they feature of women in pantyhose.  It makes me wonder how there ever was a bear (I quote the use of bear for the word bare on the first reference only) legs culture.  It also makes me wonder how the proponents of the bear legs movement sleep at night, because their collective hopes surely must be dying on the vine every day and in ever-increasing numbers.

Zhenia
Zhenia, a real, but otherwise unidentified teen pantyhose wearer.

While it is clear that there are millions of real girls throughout the world today who love pantyhose, there’s no way to begin to recognize them.  So this post is my attempt to praise the many young celebrities out there who seem to be devoted pantyhose wearers.   First, it’s easier to identify celebrities because they’re in the public eye, and second (and you’ve heard me say this a million times), celebrities have almost always been among the main influencers of society on fashion.

We owe a great thank-you to the hundreds of thousands of celebrities throughout the world who today continue to buck the once-widely-popular-but-not so-much-anymore-yet-still-lingering-in-some-numbers bear legs culture.  And they are doing that every day by wearing pantyhose in astounding numbers for all occasions and at all venues.

And while in this blog I have praised the likes of veteran actresses Milla Jovovich, Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeifer, Linda Fiorentino, Fran Drescher, and others who seemed to never buy in to the bear legs movement, today’s post shines the spotlight on young celebrities who are frequent pantyhose wearers.

And it’s long overdue because these younger wearers are in the best position to influence the very generation Sheer Mike expressed concern over possibly losing.

Before we get into it, let me say that it is impossible to recognize everyone who deserves Credit, “Wear” Credit is Due, so please bear with me here.  I’m going to feature the young celebs I’ve observed as the most deserving of credit, not only because they most often wear pantyhose in the roles they play on TV or in the movies, but also, and actually more importantly, because they wear even when out in the real world, even when they don’t have to, and certainly, when no one would expect them to.  That is extremely credit-worthy.

Note: When investigating the hundreds of websites that post pictures of celebs in pantyhose, the numbers are so staggering, it’s almost impossible not to find a star who isn’t wearing at least once or twice.  Obviously, those celebs who wear that infrequently don’t really count as much, but hey, if they wear at all today, they deserve a bit of credit.

It’s possible that a couple of the young celebs I’ve chosen for this feature might actually belong in that only-once-in-a-while category, but they made it here because they look so good in pantyhose.  Case in point …

Kylie Jenner (16)

Kylie Jenner arrives on the red carpet for the Nickelodeon-26th-Annual Kids Choice Awards earlier this year.
Kylie Jenner arrives on the purple carpet for the Nickelodeon-26th-annual Kids Choice Awards earlier this year.

Let’s start with the youngest celeb (for this feature), Kylie Jenner.  Actually, I know nothing about her.  I’ve read that she is best known for appearing on the E! reality TV show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

Well, that explains why I’d never heard of her.  I am not a fan of reality TV shows.  But here’s why she’s in this post.  She’s 16, and look at the outfit she wore (right) to Nickelodeon’s 26th annual Kids’ Choice Awards earlier this year in Los Angeles, Calif.

I did a quick Google images search about the event and didn’t see one other celebrity wearing pantyhose.  Hate the booties, but love that they are open-toe and love her toenail polish under the sheer black pantyhose.  (Or is it that I love that she is not in the least influenced by those so-called fashion experts who try so hard to convince everyone that not only should pantyhose never be worn, but especially not with open-toe shoes?)

In researching Kylie, I saw no evidence that she is a dedicated, or even frequent pantyhose wearer, but the fact that she was convicted enough to wear this outfit during an event that was seen by an estimated 350 million households around the world, to me, she deserves praise.  Talk about setting a positive example for young women and girls in their late teen years!  Way to go, Kylie.

Molly Quinn (19)

Molly Quinn
Molly Quinn

An American actress of theatre, film and television, Molly might best be known for playing the daughter of mystery novelist and consultant to the New York Police Department Richard Castle on the ABC TV show, “Castle.”

I’ve watched the show occasionally and it’s pretty entertaining, but I never paid much attention to Molly’s character, so I’m not sure how often she’s in pantyhose on the show.  But considering the show’s been on since 2009, Molly would have been only 15 during the first season.

In any case, I’ve seen many pics of Molly wearing sheer pantyhose during publicity events or other public appearances, and at 19, that gets her the nod for this post.

AnnaSophia Robb (19)

AnnaSophia Robb most often can be seen in sheer nude pantyhose.
AnnaSophia Robb most often can be seen in sheer nude pantyhose.

Star of “The Carrie Diaries” teen television series on The CW, AnnaSophia plays a young Carrie Bradshaw in the prequel to HBO’s “Sex and the City” TV series.

Frequent readers of this blog know how I feel about that whole SATC thing, so suffice it to say that AnnaSophia is recognized here not so much because her infamous character actually wears pantyhose, as the show is set in 1984 (a fabulous year for pantyhose during an incredibly great pantyhose decade), but more because she is a frequent wearer in real life.

The few times I’ve paid attention, I’ve never not seen AnnaSophia appear as a guest on a talk show in which she didn’t wear a beautiful dress, high heels and sheer pantyhose.

Considering so few of today’s veteran TV and movie stars bother to wear pantyhose with their lovely outfits during talk show appearances, AnnaSophia deserves much credit for being a role model to young women.

Victoria Justice (20)

Victoria Justice
Victoria Justice

Here’s another young star I know nothing about, but in doing the research for this post, I’ve learned that she is an actress, singer-songwriter, and dancer who has appeared in several films and television series including Nickelodeon’s “Zoey 101” and “Victorious.”

She has performed several songs for the soundtrack to the Nickelodeon musical, “Spectacular,”  in which she starred. She has recorded a number of songs for the Victorious series.  Victoria  earlier this year announced the release of her debut album.

At first, I wasn’t sure she belongs on this post, as she was bear-legged in most of the photos I could find of her.  But after further review, I was able to find several pics of her wearing sheer pantyhose in some of her roles on stage, TV shows and movies.

And while I didn’t find as many pics of her wearing just kind of out-and-about, ultimately, she makes this post because of the pics I’ve found of her wearing sheer pantyhose during her appearances on the red carpet, and as a hostess or a guest on TV awards and talk shows.

Hey, she’s only 20, and she most often presents herself professionally and with grace and elegance.  And, in the pics I have seen of her in sheer pantyhose, it would be difficult to find someone much more beautiful.

I hope Victoria continues to dress professionally and elegantly and set a positive example for other young women.

Ariana Grande (20)

Young artist Ariana Grande practically lives in pantyhose.
Young artist Ariana Grande practically lives in pantyhose.

Yet another young American actress, singer/songwriter I know nothing about, as I’ve never heard of any of the movies she’s been in, nor any of the songs she’s performed.  I just know this: There must be thousands of pics of Ariana in pantyhose.

Oh, and she grew up in Boca Raton, Florida — you know, where it’s hot.  All the time.  I’m sure there are many times she doesn’t wear pantyhose, but everytime I stumble across a photo of her, she’s wearing.  And, thankfully, her tights and pantyhose are most-often in a nude shade — not black.

If young women and girls in their late teens follow Ariana, she most certainly is setting a good example in the way she dresses, not only on stage, but also during promotional events and public appearances.  I am impressed.

Miranda Cosgrove (20)

Probably my favorite 20-year-old celeb, Miranda starred in “iCarly”, a teen sitcom that ran on Nickelodeon from September 2007 until November 2012.

I’ve watched the show a couple of times just to see her, and I can tell you that “iCarly” is most definitely a teen comedy, meaning it’s far too silly for me to watch for very long periods of time.  Nevertheless, Miranda is awfully cute.  And it’s not unusual to see her wearing sheer pantyhose in one or two scenes.

Considering that her age range was 14 to 19 during the show’s run, I think Miranda is truly exceptional for the sweet and good character she played, as well as for dressing pretty nicely while she was at it.

More importantly, today at 20, she frequently dresses professionally and quite femininely.  Appearing on TV shows, movies and talk and awards show, and performing on stage as a singer/songwriter, Miranda always seems to dress beautifully, most often wearing sheer pantyhose.

She is adorable, and I am becoming a fan.

Selena Gomez (21)

Even out-and-about, Selena Gomez most often dresses beautifully.
Selena Gomez

As much as I am lovin’ me some Miranda Cosgrove, you had to know Selena Gomez would make this feature.

The American singer and actress has a long list of hits, and always seems to conduct herself professionally, mostly dressing in beautiful outfits, complete with high heels and sheer pantyhose.

While it’s perfectly understandable that any 21-year-old woman today is going to want to dress comfortably, casually and for fun, what makes Selena special is how often she wears dresses, heels and sheer pantyhose not only on the job and for publicity appearances, but also just going shopping or out on the town.

I don’t know whether Selena is truly a devoted pantyhose wearer, but it certainly appears that she wears more often than not.

I like what I’ve seen of Selena and I believe she deserves much credit for setting a good example for other young women in the way she dresses.

Taylor Swift (23)

Taylor Swift maintains a feminine look, often wearing sheer pantyhose.
Taylor Swift

During the early days of her career, it seems we’d often see Country pop/pop rock superstar singer/songwriter Taylor Swift in a dress with bear legs and cowboy boots or flat shoes.  Then, for a while there, she was more likely to be seen bear-legged, or in some cotton-ish tights, or sometimes in funky patterned hosiery.

But lately, I am seeing Taylor in heels and sheer pantyhose in her on-stage performances, as well as during public appearances.  And she looks awesome.

I am amazed at her songwriting prowess and it seems she can’t miss today, chalking up hit after hit.

I like Taylor Swift, and I hope she continues to grow as an artist and a role model in the way she dresses as a professional young entertainer.

Emma Watson (23)

Emma Watson often wears sheer pantyhose during public appearances.
Emma Watson

Emma is an English actress and model who likely is best known for her role in the Harry Potter movies.

I know nothing about Emma.

(I’m trying to be the only person on the planet to not read the books or see the movies about Harry Potter).  I’m funny that way.

Consequently, I don’t know whether or not she’s really a devoted pantyhose wearer, but in tooling about pantyhose websites on the Internet, it’s not particularly difficult to find pics of her wearing, and that’s good enough for me.

TV shows

While I love that so many of today’s young celebrities more often than not seem to favor wearing pantyhose, I have to wonder why that is?  How did they develop this devotion to pantyhose during an era when it was not considered fashionable to do so?   Was it because of values they learned from their parents, or the influence of some veteran actresses who always wore?  Or, was it their own desire to be professional?

Or was it something else?  Many of the young celebs I researched to feature in this post earned their claim to fame on TV shows or in movies in which their characters wore pantyhose.  So maybe it was the different costume designers’ decisions that their characters should be dressed in pantyhose, and the experience carried over into the young stars’ lives.

Gilmore Girls

Alexis Bledel appears to be a devoted wearer of sheer pantyhose.
Alexis Bledel appears to be a devoted wearer of sheer pantyhose.

One of the first young celebs I chose to feature in this post is Alexis Bledel because she is a frequent wearer of sheer pantyhose.

Alexis, 31, probably is best known for her role as Rory Gilmore in the comedy/drama television series, “Gilmore Girls.”

As the series ran from October 2000 to May 2007, Alexis was 19 to 26 years old when she was exposed to the fancy costumes she would wear as her character, Rory, a member of the wealthy Gilmore family.  Of course, all those beautiful outfits she wore for those seven years were typically paired with high heels and sheer nude pantyhose.

Today, as a star of TV shows and movies, and as a professional model, Alexis continues to dress beautifully, and often is seen in high heels and sheer pantyhose during many publicity events and public appearances.

Cast members of the CW's teen drama TV series, Gossip Girl, were routinely dressed in tights and sheer pantyhose

Gossip Girl

If my theory is accurate, and we should thank “Gilmore Girls” for positively influencing a young pantyhose goddess in Alexis Bledel, then we should all get down on our knees and worship “Gossip Girl.”  That’s because the CW’s teen drama television series must have instilled a pantyhose mentality in at least four young celebs who appear to be devoted wearers today.

OK, I’ll let you in on a little secret:  I’ve never seen a single episode of “Gossip Girl.”  The title alone was enough to keep me away, and I never gave it a chance.  So, I admit that I might be completely wrong here.  I may have no idea of what I’m talking about.  But in the few advertisements I’ve seen for the show, both on TV and in photos, it appears that the girls are usually wearing pantyhose or tights.  Somehow, anyway, I came away with the idea that “Gossip Girl” was a pantyhose kind of show.

Blake Lively
Blake Lively

One thing is certain:  The show, which ran from September 2007 to December 2012, produced the likes of Blake Lively (26), Leighton Meester (27), Michelle Trachtenberg (27) and Taylor Momsen (20), each very often photographed wearing pantyhose during public appearances today.

Leighton Meester
Leighton Meester

During the show’s run, Blake ranged in age from 20 to 25; Leighton from 21 to 26; Michelle from 20 to 25; and Taylor from 14 to 19.

Again, we have young stars who wore tights and pantyhose in their roles on a popular TV drama series for a teen audience, each of whom went on to become (seemingly) devoted pantyhose wearers.

Michelle Trachtenberg
Michelle Trachtenberg

Obviously, there’s no way (that I am aware of) to know for certain whether these celebs (or any of the ones featured in this post)  truly are devoted pantyhose wearers, so I am basing my reasoning on how easy it is to find pictures on the Internet of them wearing.

Taylor Momsen
Taylor Momsen

And in the case of all of them in this post — and particularly, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Taylor Momsen — my conclusion is they indeed are devoted wearers of pantyhose.

Incidentally, since I’ve never watched “Gossip Girl,” my apologies if there were other young actresses on the show who equally deserve to be featured here.  These four are the ones with whom I am familiar.

Movies

Just as there have been several television series that featured young characters who frequently wore pantyhose, there are even more movies that did the same thing, also possibly being the influence of some awesome young celebs who’ve become known for being dedicated pantyhose wearers today.

With all due respect to “Adventures in Babysitting,” for this post, I’m not talking about movies that had one or two scenes in which a character appeared in pantyhose, but rather ones in which the main character(s) wore pantyhose through most of the film.   And one of my favorites is …

“Clueless”

Alicia Silverstone as Cher prepares to go out on the town in a scene from
Alicia Silverstone as Cher prepares to go out on the town in a scene from “Clueless.”

Set in Beverly Hills, Calif., “Clueless” stars a young Alicia Silverstone as the beautiful, super popular and fabulously wealthy Cher, a sweet and innocent, but totally superficial teenage girl who is oblivious to anything but her status atop her high school social scene.  The 1995 comedy is cute, fun and funny.

But, I’m not a film critic, and the reason “Clueless” makes this post is because Alicia wears beautiful dresses with high heels and sheer (thankfully, nude or suntan) pantyhose throughout most of the movie.

While “Clueless” was never going to win any awards, it was considered a “sleeper” hit in 1995, and helped to launch other lucrative offers for Alicia, who herself won five awards for her performance, including Funniest Actress in a Motion Picture (American Comedy Awards), Best Female Newcomer (Blockbuster Entertainment Awards), Best Female Performance, and Most Desirable Female (MTV Movie Awards), and Best Breakthrough Performer (National Board of Review).

Alicia has enjoyed a successful career as an actress, film and television producer, author, and animal rights and environmental activist, but unlike the young celebs featured above, Alicia, who was just 19 when she starred in “Clueless,” never really became what I’d think of as a pantyhose kind of girl.

Indeed, it is nearly impossible to find a picture of her in pantyhose on a Google image search.  Too bad because she looked so fabulous in pantyhose in “Clueless.”

Still, because the film was released in 1995, just at the cusp of the onset of the awful bears legs movement, Alicia should hold a special place in our hearts for her role in “Clueless.”

“Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen”

Lindsay Lohan in a scene from
Lindsay Lohan in a scene from “Confessions.”

This cute teen comedy released in February 2004 starred, in particular, two young actresses, each of whom have become high profile celebrities in their own rights.  Today, each has a pretty strong connection to pantyhose; one I would call an absolute pantyhose goddess.

Lindsay Lohan (27)

Lindsay Lohan has proved she is a devoted wearer of sheer pantyhose.
Lindsay Lohan has proved she is a devoted wearer of sheer pantyhose.

With 26 movies to her credit so far, starting with the 1998 Disney movie, “Parent Trap,” in which she won Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film – Leading Young Actress, and a lead role in the 2004 movie, “Mean Girls,” for which she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performance, Lindsay is an accomplished actress.

But before “Mean Girls,” her first lead role was in the 2004 movie, “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” for which she won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Breakout Star.

Throughout the majority of the movie, Lindsay’s character wears dresses, heels and sheer pantyhose.

As Lindsay was only 18 years old at the time she made the movie, I wonder if it was the influence of her character’s wardrobe that ultimately led to her becoming a bona fide pantyhose kind of girl?

Lindsay may not exactly have a Disney image anymore, but the drama queen at least gets my praise for being a frequent wearer of sheer pantyhose in movie roles, TV show roles, modeling gigs, work as a professional recording artist, and perhaps more importantly, in public appearances on and off the clock.

Megan Fox (27)

Always professional, classy and elegant, Megan Fox always wears beautiful outfits, complete with high heels and sheer pantyhose.
Always professional, classy and elegant, Megan Fox is dedicated and consistent in wearing beautiful outfits, complete with high heels and sheer pantyhose.

If Lindsay Lohan could be considered a frequent, if not devoted, pantyhose wearer, then Megan Fox is the ultimate pantyhose goddess of the universe.   There!  I said it.

Beginning her acting career in 2001, Megan already has been nominated for awards 19 times, and won six times, including: For her role in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in 2009, a Teen Choice Award for Summer Movie Star Female and a Scream Award for Best Sci-Fi Actress;  for her starring role in “Jennifer’s Body” in 2010, two Teen Choice Awards for Female Hottie, and Movie Actress: Horror/Thriller.

But it was in 2004 when Megan made her film debut in “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” co-starring opposite Lindsay in a supporting role as Lindsay’s character’s rival.  And, as lovely as Lindsay looked in a dress and pantyhose and heels, Megan looked incredibly amazing dressed the same way.

Like Lindsay, Megan was 18 years old when “Confessions” was released.  Today, the actress and professional model is in every sense of the word a devoted pantyhose goddess, always dressing beautifully in a dress, high heels and sheer (thankfully, usually, nude or suntan) pantyhose when appearing as a guest, a host, or just making a public appearance.

From what I’ve observed, and with all due respect and thanks to Zooey Deschanel, there may not be any other young female celebrity on the planet who more consistently is seen wearing sheer pantyhose.

With so many young women and girls in their late teens all over the world demonstrating their love for wearing pantyhose today, the future indeed looks bright.  And much of the credit for this should go to young actresses, models, singers and entertainers for setting such good examples.

This is why we shouldn’t expend any energy worrying about the negative propaganda by so-called fashion experts, and the haterizing by proponents of the bear legs culture, potentially causing a whole generation of young women to miss the opportunity of dressing professionally, femininely, and with class and elegance by including sheer pantyhose in their wardrobes.

Undoubtedly, I’ve left out lots of young celebs, TV shows and movies that honor our love of pantyhose.  So, my friends, here’s your chance to recognize your favorites.  Send me your comments and tell me who else deserves Credit “Wear” Credit is Due.

Meanwhile, here is a gallery of pics of some of the celebs featured in this post, and some who weren’t (only because of space issues).  And, if you’re nice, I’ll keep this section fluid, so you can send me your own pics of your favorite young celebrities in pantyhose, and I’ll add them here.

Loving even the little condition ‘mistreats’ in pantyhose-wearing

Robin Maryland,
president, ActSensuous

June 30, 2013 — Earlier this week, one of our readers, Jan, wrote a comment expressing his (yes, his) dismay about a lack of attention many women give to the condition of their pantyhose while they’re wearing them.

Here’s Jan’s comment (and by the way, I don’t edit readers’ comments):

Dear Robin!
I have often wondered, why some pantyhosed women never pay any attention on how the pantyhose is doing during the day or what’s happening to the pantyhose on duty?
My well trained pantyhose eye will spot all kinds of pantyhose miss treats on any given day.  You can find toe caps not in line or vertical toe caps, sole reinforcements almost upp side on the wrist, heel caps twisted up sideways and damaged.
Also, there’s long runs from heel upp to waist and heavy tear and damaged pantyhose legs.
I wish some women could take more care of their pantyhose and put some thought into what’s going on pantyhosewise. Maybe take a pantyhose moment and adjust reinforcements and check seams etc.  This is probably even more important when using the classic 100% polymide pantyhose.
I personally approve of all kinds of pantyhose use, but I also think that a the pantyhose is a delicate and beautiful thing that need a bit of handling and care.  Mature women knows this, they know how to handle a pantyhose.  But the “next gen” pantyhose users….
Sometimes I wish I could just start a pantyhose handling centre.
Brgds.
Jan

Often, I have an idea for a new post, but after doing the research, looking for the right art to go with the writing, or even just over-thinking, I’ll talk myself out of writing it.  In case you’re keeping score at home, that’s why you don’t get a post from me every day, every week, or even every month.  I prefer to deliver quality, rather than quantity, and I’m a harsh judge of what that means.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think a little run or snag in an otherwise beautiful pair of pantyhose can be kinda sexy.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I think a little run or snag in an otherwise beautiful pair of pantyhose can be kinda sexy.

I had long been thinking of writing a post about a topic similar to Jan’s, and, as is often the case with me, it took his comment to tip the scales in favor of my writing it.   So, first, let me encourage every one of you to please continue to write comments that reflect the pantyhose topics on your mind, and/or feel free to suggest subjects about which you’d like for me to write.

In my reply to Jan’s comment, I wrote (in part) “… I’m just so happy whenever I see a woman wearing pantyhose today, I don’t care what condition they appear to be in.”

Would anyone find fault with the way the nylon bunches a bit where the toes meets the shoe on actress Blake Lively's lovely legs here?
Would anyone find fault in the way the nylon bunches a bit where the toes meets the shoe on actress Blake Lively’s lovely legs here?

I didn’t go into more detail because I had decided at that point to write this post.  So here it is.

While I created ActSensuous to make the style of pantyhose I loved but could no longer find, I have always realized and appreciated that people all over the world love a great variety of styles.  These include the thickest and shiniest kinds to the most delicate and sheer types that challenge one to discern whether a woman is actually wearing or not.

My feeling is any pantyhose are better than no pantyhose.  Similarly, I find beauty and extreme femininity in the very concept of pantyhose.

So, I truly meant what I wrote about not caring what condition pantyhose are in, as long as they’re on.   In fact, since I love and appreciate most the kind of pantyhose that are practically invisible on the wearer, more so than patterned or thick and shiny kinds, I love subtle little indicators that make it obvious that pantyhose are being worn.

Little wrinkles in the nylon fabric on the ankles or where the toe cleavage meets the shoe is sexy to me.
Little wrinkles in the nylon fabric behind the knee, on the ankles, or where toe cleavage meets the shoe is sexy to me.

Often, that means seeing some of the condition “mistreats” about which Jan wrote.

In fact, I think it’s kind of sexy when the seam at the toe ends up a bit vertical, or when there is a run up the leg, or those little fabric wrinkles over toe cleavage or at the ankles.

Often, I’ve wondered if anyone out there is as sick as me.   Do you hate it when you see these little pantyhose condition mistreats, or do you love it?   Are those things awful, or are they kind of sexy?  Do you love it when you see a girl adjusting the nylon fabric up her leg, or smoothing it with her hands over her legs?

A beautiful scene when Christie Brinkley pulls the fabric of her sheer nude pantyhose up her leg in Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" music video in 1983.
A lovely and sexy scene when Christie Brinkley pulls the fabric of her sheer nude pantyhose up her leg in Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” music video in 1983.

Long before I ever dreamed of creating my own company, I was profoundly influenced by the image of Christie Brinkley pulling the fabric of her sheer nude pantyhose up her leg during a scene in the “Uptown Girl” music video from Billy Joel’s hit single in 1983.

It is a beautiful scene that was not uncommon to see in real life during the great pantyhose decade of the 1980s (all of the 1970s and the late 1960s I’m told, but was too young to have experienced it for myself), but just the fact that someone was wise and creative enough to include it in this music video (2:14/3:23) is awesome.

Ever professional and classy, Christie Brinkley almost always wears sheer pantyhose during public appearances.

I would love to meet the person who was responsible for that scene because he or she (probably he) obviously understood the beauty, femininity and extreme sensual qualities of pantyhose back then, and probably suffered like all of us during the height of the “bear” legs movement in the late 1990s to 2000s.

Would love to hear what that person has to say today.

Further, to her credit, Christie Brinkley is still a beautiful and classy woman who never bought in to bear legs culture.

Maybe she, too, was influenced in the virtues of pantyhose-wearing from the making of that music video, as she still wears sheer pantyhose (quite beautifully) today.

When I see images of girls running their hands over their pantyhose legs, sometimes subconsciously it seems, they’re not only smoothing the fabric, but also feeling it themselves.

I’ve always thought that has to be exciting to see for the guys who love pantyhose.

So, what do you think?   Do you hate the little condition mistreats inevitable in pantyhose-wearing, or do you love them?   Are they ugly, or beautiful and kind of sexy?

Again, my thanks to Jan for his comment, which motivated me to write this post.

Who should NBC hire next to perform intro to SNF?

“I been waitin’ all (these years) for Sunday Night (without Faith Hill’s “bear” legs).”

Yesterday, one of our devoted readers (and our most prolific commenter), Brian W., alerted me that country singer Faith Hill announced on Monday that she no longer will perform the lead-in to Sunday Night Football.

Well, here’s a song for ya: “Ding-dong, the witch is dead.”

If it sounds like I won’t be missing Faith’s SNF intro, you got that right. I hate missed opportunities, and Faith certainly passed up the chance to class up the joint with her skimpy outfits and those pasty white “bear” legs prancing around the stage, belting out that Joan Jett-like tune. Hate that song … mostly because once you hear it, you can’t get it out of your head, along with the image of those “bear” legs.

I so wanted Faith to bring a little elegance to the SNF intro, but she just wouldn’t do it.

Bare legs and these goofy-looking shoes did nothing to help Faith Hill's image during her SNF lead-in shows.
Bare legs and these goofy-looking shoes did nothing to help Faith Hill’s image during her SNF lead-in shows.

Maybe she felt that because this was a sports venue, it called for a more casual look. Wrong!   Hey, Faith, even professional sports cheerleaders (some college and even high school cheerleaders) wear pantyhose with their uniforms.

And, if those “bear” legs weren’t bad enough, I don’t know what Faith was thinking with that”prostitute look” (below left).faithhill

So, yes, I am glad Faith no longer will be doing the introduction number to Sunday Night Football.

Now, I’m wondering who NBC will draft next for that role.

While finally, once again, we’re seeing more and more Hollywood actresses wearing pantyhose during publicity and public appearances, professional singers/dancers today (Faith notwithstanding) always wear pantyhose on stage.

So, I see no shortage of female candidates who could easily step into the SNF intro role.

Beyonce' can light up any stage, always showing off her legs in sheer pantyhose.
Beyonce’ can light up any stage, always showing off her legs in sheer pantyhose.

Here are my top few choices and why.

Beyonce

Well liked and respected, Beyonce’ is always professional and classy.  She’s a great singer/dancer/entertainer, and she is a devoted pantyhose wearer.

And, in addition to always wearing pantyhose on stage, she often wears for publicity events and guest appearances on talk shows.

Of course, Beyonce’ has done a Super Bowl halftime show, so she’s not exactly off the radar to NBC or the NFl.

She’s not controversial.  I’d say, on the surface, she seems to be a natural fit.

[She … could … go … all the way!]

Always professional and classy enough to wear pantyhose during her performances onstage, Rihanna should be a candidate for the next SNF lead-in role.

Rihanna

Another good candidate who always wears pantyhose with her sexy but tasteful costumes on stage.

But, wait a minute.  Doesn’t she have an idiot rapper boyfriend who has used her face for a punching bag? I doubt NBC and the NFL would want Rihanna to be the poster girl for SNF.

Too bad because she otherwise would be a good choice.

[Fumble]

Lady Gaga

OK, just kidding.  She definitely is a devoted pantyhose wearer, but, well, too often she wears practically nothing but pantyhose.  NBC probably would be frightened by her.

[Sack]

Katy Perry is ultra-talented, exciting and always professional.

Katy Perry

Now, here’s my favorite. Katy is nothing but classy, lovely, and just plain cute.

She writes some very compelling songs and appeals to audiences of all demographics.

Add to that a fantastic voice, great stage and screen presence, and very contemporary songwriting, and NBC would have a true winner.

Oh, and Katy Perry never goes anywhere not dressed beautifully.  And she’s one of the most prolific pantyhose wearers among all professional entertainers.

I just love her, and I bet that NBC would, too.

[Touchdown, Katy!]

Taylor Swift

If NBC wanted to stay with a country/pop singer, Taylor might be a pretty swift choice. That girl can write some entertaining songs.  She’s got a pleasant sound. She’s got a wholesome persona.

It could work.

[Long field goal]

Selena Gomez

Great voice. Wears lovely outfits, complete with pantyhose, on stage.  But … uh, no.  Cute, but probably too young. Probably not an NFL fan either. Anyway, she wouldn’t get my vote because too many times I’ve been disappointed in her for not wearing pantyhose with her beautiful outfits on late night talk shows.

Jennifer Lopez is an experienced entertainer who has a connection to the NFL.

Jennifer Lopez

Now, we’re talking.  What a performer!  She can sing. She can dance. She can definitely rock it. She knows how to dress on stage.

But is she an NFL kind of girl?  Uh, yeah.  She’s part owner of the Miami Dolphins.

In one of her movies (the one of her’s I like best), “Out of Sight,” she plays a U.S. Marshall pursuing a career bank robber (George Clooney).

The movie is set in Miami, and in one scene, J-Lo wears short-shorts and a Dan Marino jersey.  But when she is on the job during a good portion of the movie, she’s wearing a skirt with sheer nude pantyhose and heels, and she looks great.

Sadly, I’ve seen her in a couple of TV commercials and print ads doing the “bear” legs thing.  So, she gets a personal foul penalty (15 yards), but I’d still give her the nod to do the SNF intro.

[First down, J-lo]

Gloria Estefan

Another great candidate, the Cuban-American pop singer can belt out a song like no one, and she’s got all the right moves on the stage.  But is she an NFL kind of gal?  Uh, hello, another part owner of the Miami Dolphins, and a “diehard” fan since the Phins’ 1972/73 perfect season, she says.

Makes sense to me.  Hey, NBC, if Gloria sings the SNF intro, I can tell  you this:  “The rhythym is Gonna Get You.”

[First and goal]

Christina Aguilera

Why not?  She’s got the pipes and the dance moves.  And she’s classy enough to wear pantyhose on stage.

[Extra point]

Paula Abdul
Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul

I have never seen Paula on stage not wearing pantyhose. She can sing and dance.  She’d be a fine candidate.

[Makes the playoffs]

Madonna

I’m not kidding.  OK, yes, I am.

Then again, she’d still be an upgrade over Faith Hill.  At least Madonna has the sense to wear pantyhose on stage.

[Holding penalty]

Singer/actress Cher was known for her exotic costumes on stage, always with suntan or nude pantyhose.

Cher

Now I’m kidding, of course.

But if this were the 1990s, she’d likely be my first choice. She most definitely would be classy, exotic and entertaining.

Back in the days of “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves,” Cher was the entertainment bomb, and so were her on-stage costumes, such as this one (left) from 1978.

Before the likes of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper (both likely influenced by her), Cher was the girl who “just wanted to have fun.”

OK, so today Cher isn’t a candidate to perform the Sunday Night Football introduction, but it would be nice if when NBC considers the next star to take that stage, they choose someone who has the professionalism, glamour and exotic looks that Cher had.

[End of regulation]

OK, now it’s your turn.  Who’d I leave out?  Who would be your choice to perform the introduction number to Sunday Night Football, and why?   Take the poll below to let me know.

Also, next up is a photo gallery I’ve made for you featuring some professional entertainers who probably should be considered.  By the way, when you click to expand the pictures, you know you can comment on any one you like, right?  Just saying …

Who should be the next SNF intro performer?

Katy Perry would be a great choice to perform NBC's Sunday Night Football intro number. She is a talented and professional star, and she always wears pantyhose onstage.
