Credit ‘Wear’ Credit is Due – Jennifer Lopez

Did you hear that People magazine this week named singer/actress Jennifer Lopez the “World’s Most Beautiful Woman?”

Good for her.  I wouldn’t say that I am a huge fan, and I might be the only person on the planet who doesn’t watch “American Idol” (never seen a single episode).

But I do like J-Lo.

Hearing of People’s award, I was reminded of a couple of J-Lo movies I like a lot: “Out of Sight” in which she plays an FBI agent hot on the trail of fugitive George Clooney (1998), and “Shall We Dance?” in which she plays a ballroom dance instructor opposite Richard Gere (2004).
Jennifer Lopez, far left, and Richard Gere star in Shall We Dance?

I know she’s played many good roles in other movies, but I especially like the above-mentioned ones because she wears sheer nude pantyhose (and quite beautifully) in them.  That, and they are very entertaining movies.

Jennifer Lopez and husband, Marc Anthony

I really don’t know about J-Lo’s wardrobe in any of her other movies.  I did find a few pics of her wearing pantyhose during public appearances, right, so that makes me like her all the more.

Of course, I love it when the stars wear pantyhose in their TV or movie roles.  Assuming they choose to (as opposed to being told to by the show’s costumer), it makes me think they are professional, or at least have good taste.

But, before I decide whether I really like a celebrity, I look to see how many pics, if any, I can find of her wearing pantyhose during public appearances.  That tells me whether she really has any class or not.

A case in point:  One of People’s “Top 25 Most Beautiful” is Dana Delany.  I wasn’t familiar with her until her new show, “Body of Proof,” aired earlier this month.  Apparently, she’s known for her legs, and she knows how to show them off in pantyhose and heels.

I didn’t know she was in “Desperate Housewives,” because that’s another show I don’t watch, so I have no idea whether she wore pantyhose on that show.

Dana Delany

Since she’s known for her legs, I wanted to see if I could find some pics of her wearing pantyhose in public appearances, but I found only one (left).

Of course, that bothers me.  I mean I am glad that she wears when she’s on-screen, but for all I know, that’s the show’s costume designer’s decision, not her’s.

To me, if she most often chooses not to wear in public, I’m not impressed.

An even better example is Sarah Shahi of “Fairly Legal” (below).  Cute show, and Sarah is gorgeous.  I really liked her as a detective on “Life,” but she always wore slacks in that role.

In “Fairly Legal,” she plays a professional mediator who serves high profile clients looking to avoid lawsuits.  Her character is dressed impeccably except for the bare legs thing.

Sarah Sashi stars in TVs Fairly Legal.

That seems so unrealistic to me, and it pisses me off that she, or the show’s costumer, is so naïve as to dress her character, who is otherwise adorable and charming, in such an unprofessional manner.  Hard for me to like that show.

More than anything, I hate when stars succumb to what they believe is the “style” or what they think is “fashionable,” and since they are expected to be the most hip among us, they must feel some pressure to “go along” rather than doing what they surely know is right.

Clearly, there are many classy stars (seasoned and newcomers) who often wear pantyhose whenever they appear on the red carpet, at a publicity event, on a late night talk show, or on a TV commercial.  One such star who does so every time without fail is Julianna Margulies.  To me, that shows so much professionalism and class.

What do you think about Jennifer Lopez being named People magazine’s “World’s Most Beautiful Woman?”  Whom would you have chosen?  Send me your comments and let us know.

Think you know me pretty well by now from reading my blog posts?  Whom do you think I would have chosen?

  • I wonder if news anchors and reporters might be a good source of celebrities in pantyhose? They are not generally as famous as movie and television stars but they do reach a lot of people and I think there are a few who routinely wear. I would love to read your thoughts on that in a post sometime in the future.

      • I don’t know about other locales, but in my neck of the woods, the female newscasters and reporters are almost never shown below the waistline, so they could be wearing anything. The national news at least sometimes offers some views below the waist, so a better place to evaluate, at least from my perspective. Several women on the Weather Channel appear to wear pantyhose when wearing dresses or skirts; they may actually have a dress code, or hold themselves to a nice standard!

I likewise encourage you to write about this topic, Robin!

  • J Lo right on, and I think she would be a great spokesperson for pantyhose. She is sexy, nice legs, and seeing them clad in pantyhose for a pantyhose ad, commerical would be awesome and it would help bring them back with a bang. Born in the early 60’s and I’m a super big fan of them.

    • Hi, Peter. Thanks for your comment. Anne Hathaway. Hmmmmmmmm. I’ve seen a few pics of her wearing pantyhose during public appearances. Of course, the movie she’s most known for wearing pantyhose is “The Devil Wears Prada.”

But I can’t really say that I am an Anne Hathaway fan because she didn’t wear in her role as Agent 99 in “Get Smart.” Back in the day when Barbara Feldon played 99, the character had great class and was very glamorous. I thought the updated “Get Smart” opposite Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart could have been a breakout role for Anne — playing a beloved character, a role that could have made her more of a household name. As far as I’m concerned, she blew it.

Then again, as always, whom is to blame for her not wearing? Was that her decision, or the movie’s costumer? Maybe some moron within the production decided to give the show a more “modern” look and feel, and to him/her, that meant the co-star would be in bare legs. Yet, I believe that the audience who would be most interested in “Get Smart” would be the ones who were loyal followers of the original TV series, and would have liked seeing a classier Agent 99.

But that’s just me. In any event, I’m taking this out on Anne Hathaway, and until she stars in a bigger role — one in which she wears pantyhose — I’m not a fan!

Thanks again for the comment. And, Peter, you, of all people, should be able to guess whom my choice would be for People’s Most Beautiful Woman.

    • Morena Baccarin aside…or is it Juliana Marguiles, you need to see Ms. Hathaway in the Devil Wears Prada or Love and Other Drugs. I can guarantee she has pantyhose on.

      • Hi Peter,

Hey, you’re the first to guess who I would have chosen as People magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman. I like your guesses of Morena Baccarin and Julianna Margulies, but sorry, they’re not the ones.

I love Morena for always wearing pantyhose and heels as the head alien in “V” but she doesn’t wear during her late night talk show visits or other public appearances I’ve seen. Big strike against her for that.

Julianna wears everytime, all the time. I believe in her because she always wears on “The Good Wife” and in every talk show appearance I’ve seen her on. Now she’s doing a Revlon (I think) commercial, and she’s wearing in that, too. She is awesome! But, still not my choice for Most Beautiful Woman.

Having written all that, thank you for attaching those pics of Anne Hathaway in “Love and Other Drugs.” I haven’t seen that movie, but I will now that you’ve pointed it out.

        Take care.

  • My vote would be for Pippa Black, the Aussie who’s in the NBC comedy Outsourced. Far more attractive, in my humble opinion, than J-Lo. Only problem with Pippa…always bare legs on the show :(. I looked quickly for a photo of her in pantyhose, but did not find any, although I didn’t look very long. Other than that, she’s quite a beautiful woman! Maybe she needs to make a guest appearance on The Office, where there’s no lack of ladies donning the great fabric.

Also sorry to hear that you’re discouraged about posting Robin, but I don’t blame you. Again, where are the women? It would be a more interesting read if some women chimed in with their perspective on your topics. I hope you don’t get too discouraged and continue to fight the good fight!

    Cheers and Beers,

    • Hi AJ,

Thank you for your great comment, including your choice for World’s Most Beautiful Woman. Yes, it’s really too bad about Pippa Black doing the bare legs thing.

As for me, yes, I’ve been extremely dismayed and discouraged about the lackluster response to my blog, but I’ve since decided, that it’s worth it to continue writing for the few who really do appreciate it, like you. So, don’t worry about me. I will continue to fight the good fight.

  • Hi Robin, I agree with Carl from above. Beauty is only skin deep and just because someone looks good on the outside doesn’t mean they have a great personality. I think that People Magazine made a good choice in choosing J-Lo for the most beautiful woman in the world although it would be nice to see her wearing pantyhose more when she wears those gorgeous dresses. If I had to make a choice in choosing someone, it would be someone like Janet Jackson or Jill Scott. R.M.

  • Robin.. It has been a while since your last posting but it has been worth the wait…
    Another outstanding posting from you…

Yes…Jennifer Lopez looks great but i still feel “Beauty is still in the eyes of the beholder”..

Apart from looking outstanding a lot of beauty comes from within… A great personality..

Not forgetting the beauty of fantastic legs in a pair of pantyhose..

Lastly the beauty of pantyhose.. What a difference wearing a very thin layer of nylon on your legs can make..

There is nothing like wearing a pair of Actsensous pantyhose..

    Take Care

    • Thanks for your comment, Carl. And thanks for noticing my hiatus from blogging. I got totally discouraged from the game because so few people ever bothered to comment on my posts. But, I’m BACK, for now anyway.

Now, tell us: If you were People magazine, who would your choice be for Most Beautiful Woman in the World?

What do you think?
